The Iconic Service an Gas station in Gants Pass closes after more than 80 years

Maybe not a topic that is that would be interesting to many on this board but I had the feeling that I should post this. I find it sad that after 80 years of tradition, small Service and Gas stations that were oriented towards satisfying the customers have to stop pumping.

My point is that morning an obsolete gas station that nobody apparently wants except for a few sentimentalists that never went there anyway is a waste of time

So what’s your point @3ixv? The British are all about pomp and ceremony, the French are mostly socialists wanting government to change things (forget about the costs), and the Mexicans are a bunch of corrupt Statesmen lining their pockets while pretending to be doing something for the people. Come to think of it, the United States is much like Mexico too.

I lived in Mexico and London and I traveled extensively in France. One of the things that surprised me was differences in attitude. If something is run down, decrepit or obsolete, the English will list it, spend any amount of money to restore it or make a museum out of it. The French will raze it immediately and build something else much better. In Mexico, the government will just put a bronze plaque on it, have a speech and a party and then just forget about it.

Another example of Chevron getting rid of anything that’s 50+ years old... Gas stations and employees on the payroll.

Aside from Grants Pass being in ultra liberal, fossil fuel hating Oregon, it it possible this particular gas station is one that’s owned and operated by Chevron? Most Chevron gas stations are independently owned and operated, but this station just may be one of the very few gas stations remaining that Chevron was proud to have owned and operated. But, this business model is no longer being followed by Chevron. They have been quickly closing their own stations across the country.

Grants Pass is a small city the the State of Oregon. That alone should tell you one main reason why the Chevron gas station closing. Have you seen the television sit-comedy series, Portlandia? In Oregon, the people don’t think like most sane people across the country. Most can care less about our industry and how vital it is for everyone, including them.

If it is what modern customers wanted, it would not be closed.
