Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

There is no career at GM, move along, stop trying to prop it up

There is no career at GM, move along, stop try to prop it up. If you are parked at GM, ask yourself why. If you are there to milk the benefits then you have made your bargain and should keep a stiff upper lip. Every school boy knows GM’s life expectancy is at most 10-15 years. Anything left after that will be consumed by Tata. The GM execs will get a sweet bonus for engineering the sale. GM has been foolish enough to let their Intellectual property be continually siphoned off to China and India, they have nothing left. GM has an unsustainable US and Europe business model; they can’t figure out how to build cars people want. They have inflated the truck and suv prices to levels where people cannot buy them. They have a mobility scheme that is a pipe dream. Profitability from the schemes could only be realized upon wide scale consumer adoption. Anyone not high on the corporate koolaid can see the roadway littered with the carcasses of all the so called disruptive ideas and technologies that no one really wants. The only thing they will disrupt is the lives of employees.

The auto technology will supplant the iPhone? yeah right, just stop already .remove all the GM navigation, stereo and other onboard experiences and put a recessed tablet/phone holder in the dash and we will snap out iPad/iPhone into the dash. Let the true innovators write the software then it will actually work and be affordable.

Sure a healthy company investigates new technology. But a healthy company does not siphon off the majority of its resources from its core business to place multi-billion dollar bets in a space that they do not understand nor have the capability to excel and succeed in. At the end of the fool’s errand there will be another financial reckoning and GM will cease to exist.

Couldn’t agree more with @WQqdAae-1wuu .

Yepper things do look dismal.

We are falling down in the making vehicles people want to own department.

The only 2019 vehicle that makes my heart go pitter-pat is the Jeep Gladiator.

The 2019 GM vehicles are all ho-him to me.

We need to focus on product, product, product. We are spending too much time chasing unicorns.

GM is like the UofM football team and the Democratic Party. Arrogant, arrogant, arrogant. It's so sweet to see UofM lose to Florida. The Democrats look like arses in there irrational and illogical rants and discussions. GM is similar in so many ways. When cars stop selling and bonuses cease they fold like little babies. Right on. GM, Democrats and UofM all need to feel the pain for there awful behavior.

I have a love and hate relationship with GM.

Meaning, I give everything, everything, and everything for the people I work with, and it's management. Often times, some of the best people you will ever engage with. I train, I mentor, I support, and I provide for my workload. I was ONLY suppose to provide for my workload.

At the same time, I'm slapped around like most others, furloughed when needed, laid off when needed, and I have more recommendations and endorsements among my team, than anyone among my team. I understand, they have no more power on the inside than I have. This is the nature of a corporation and the bean counters at the top. I love my friends and colleagues. NO ill will.

GM has defined two dozen years of my life, to teach and elevate an all star performance spanning multiple skill sets, having trained and mentored more than a hundred individuals, yet, I now the relationship I am involved within.

GM is NOTHING more than abusive relationship with a parent, a parent that beats their child, and loves their child when needed. This often again returns to a beat and love relationship, time and time again. It occurred before 2008, in 2008, and again in 2018. GM again, will call me back later for my skillset, but will showcase, their abusive relationship they so fondly take advantage of.

I learned, well early into my career. Over these times, it's only reinforced these convictions. IF you want to dance with the devil, you will find the devil wanting his due. This is GM. As a part of life, the benefit is to either: Learn through experience, or learn through others, in hopes to avoid. Your decision is your own.

I personally, do not buy GM. I never will. This is GM's tale, in my life, and those within my sphere of influence. They alienate customers for life.

Concur with OP sentiment. I would give them max 20 years.

1tzh needs to review GM HR training. Racial slurs are not acceptable. If you are in Texas spouting your racial slurs you will find yourself escorted across the border. You are most likely a guest in this country, grow up and act like one.

They did say that one of the big three was destined for absolute failure in the future. The only one bold enough to move as quickly as the others, has been GM. Much like betting on a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, GM may have moved so far in advanced of their speculative play, it could bankrupt the corporation. It's a valid position. Fortune only favors the bold of right.

Do this day, NO ONE wants sedans. If you bring out 20 EV sedans in the coming years, no one will still want sedans.

Well played Mary. At least your 20 million will keep you well fed, whether you screw this up or not.

Rubbish, from another Anglo and endorsed by two others of his kind.

Just leave GM, no one has put a gun to your head to stay.
