Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

You'll know on January 9

If any clubs will close, there will be a note on your time clock the night of Wednesday Jan 9th. The meeting will be at 7am on the 10th, and reopen Friday the 11th. It will stay open for 2 weeks, so the store can sell everything. This gives them the time needed to have everything done before the end of fiscal year.

@cgja the MM meeting was postponed which obviously postpones the news of any major changes.

Heard that there is a Market Manager Meeting starting on Jan 6-8 this year. Guessing the cuts will come out on Jan 9th. Keep your chin up & am praying for all the associates, hourly & salaried.

My store closed last year. I think it's wrong the way they do it. Give u 2 weeks and the closed. Now the store I'm at is in jeopardy of closing.

Why would they have the GM meet at a hotel? That sounds creepy. They just had our GM come meet them at the store. They closed up in the conference room, and he gave the news. It was around 8pm Wednesday night. A note was put on the time clock that night saying there was a meeting at 7am and all associates who attended will be paid for 4 hours. We had the meeting, store was closed that whole day, then reopened Friday and sold everything in 2 weeks. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. I miss my coworkers, but I would not trade a thing. My life is much better. What a difference a year makes!

No one knew anything until the Market Mngr called and said that he needed to meet with the GM at some hotel late on the afternoon of the 10th. A day off , that was Wed. They then had a meeting with an HR Rep the MM, and received instructions on things that needed to be done immediately,

things that would happen the following day.

Club was closed permanently the night of 1/11/18. Otherwise you stayed open to sell through. Was different by Club. Many just Closed and never reopened. There were no previous conversations just speculation. Our Club received freight until the last minute. Only truck cancelled was Wed evening . Produce was light for a few days and we knew something was wrong by the OS. No Markdowns by category as in other clubs.

We were focused on running the club not burning up the phone lines w rumors and gossip. However we got burned anyway, did not matter seems like a lifetime ago and it’s a year already. My advice do not worry, will not change a thing. Do yourself and your team a favor. Do not think about it. If it happens you will get through it. Peace!!

God Bless

Coming from someone who had their club closed, this sounds pretty accurate.
