Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The vicious circle

The entire US healthcare system— doctors, hospitals, d--g manufacturers and the insurance companies are all complicit with the government. We live in a country where our very health is used as a ransom to enrich the medical, pharmaceutical and insurance systems. The industry, in turn, lobby the government to keep them depending on their donor money for re-election. It’s a vicious circle where one feeds the other at the expense of the citizenry. Other developed countries have adequate and cutting edge healthcare, but don’t have anywhere close the high costs seen in the United States. Is there any wonder? The answer is simple. In the US, we are held hostage by our own government and an industry that keeps taking more and more of our hard earned money. People need to wake up. This has got to end.

I may be off topic reposting this post from @WBXHdYa-gvyq , given that this is not a layoff-related subject, but the pos was on the on another thread on the Chevron board and I felt the OP made a good point.

The previous post is spot on about Canadian health care. I know, I lived it. Need a hip replacement? A new knee? Forget-about-it, limp! Oh, that pain in your lower abdomen. Go home and put a hot towel on it and call us when your appendix bursts. At least now they can legally self medicate to relieve the pain. Or maybe not, there are shortages!

I should hope the poster does not include Canada in his/her list of developed countries. 50% of my pay cheque goes to income taxes, the sales tax (which is exorbitant), and then property tax, fuel tax, sin tax, ad nauseum. I have a list of relatives and friends who have either died from inadequate healthcare or been on a waitlist for 1-2 years for the rudimentary of operations and being told to live with the pain.
