Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Any surprises this year?

What do you think? More store closings? More cuts in hours? Removed positions? What can Lowe's throw at us that we haven't seen before?

I can see PSI/PSE getting centralized with one covering multiple stores. They already implimented a market manager for PSIs and took them away from sales managers. Next step is to have PSIs cover multiple stores and only go to stores for appointments. They already started having a central design office work up PSI designs instead of having in store designers do it.

It could work. It makes sense and could be better for consistency all around. And hopefully if there are less PSIs total they can take some of that payroll and give every store install pullers to pull projects instead of having specialists do it. You could reduce a markets PSI staff by half and give each store 2 PT install pullers and still reduce costs.

Ellison has clearly demonstrated he's going to cut, cut, cut!

What he's doing is strictly good for Lowe's Stockholders and him, not the business of you and your bottom line as an employee.

  1. Look at your final 2018 paystub and compare to your new 2019 paystub for this Friday. You will find Lowe's contribution to our Health Insurance has went down 5.5%. Our contribution has went up approximately 5.15% with the discount.

  2. HR has been gutted, and you are now at the complete mercy of largely unqualified store level management with little understanding of labor laws or employee engagement.

  3. F/T hours have already been scheduled at less than 39 per week at our store. (That's A Pay Cut)

  4. Pay scales have already been reduced.

  5. Don't expect a pay increase in 2019. (Ellison is implementing Depot's Playbook of low wages)

  6. Ellison doesn't like PSE/PSI programs being in-house. (Again, likes Depot's Playbook, Outsourcing)

  7. There will be a change with specialists during 2019.

  8. Expect more store closings in various geographic areas.

  9. Self-check outs will be installed in most all stores.

  10. The focus will be on Pro business and that's where savings from other savings/cuts will go.

The plan is to drive up the stock price by whatever means. Mr. Ellison is beholding to the board and hedge funds like DE Shaw.

"They wouldn’t suspend the PSI/PSE positions would they?"

I would not leave that out as a possibility, or a major shakeup in the program as Marvin has said in his town hall sessions that install and those 2 programs in particular, has a lot of problems.

None of that is hardly a surprise anymore for this company.

I'd be more surprised if any new employee ever saw a reason to dedicate themselves to Lowe's with all these well-reported and documented layoffs. Any outsider would see Lowe's as a job with no growth now.

Replacing fulltimers with part time associates. Already happening at my store. Two full timers were “promoted” to SSM. The first on wasn’t replaced and the second one was replaced with a part timer.

Our inside seasonal department is being staffed by 3 partimers so their call box is constantly going off, paint goes over to help, then the paint call box goes off, then cashiers come over, then it’s “code 3, code 3 to the front end!”
