Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

1 MAN CREWS (road)

The next biggest move out of Omaha is going to be 1 Man Crews for system wide road jobs. Engineer only except on certain trains. I'm in Omaha and this is not a rumor. Just trying to let you know so you can prepare yourselves accordingly. Huge slashes to train crews imminent.

5 years for one man crews on some trains with no work enroute. It wont happen until energy management is to the point of able to replace the engineer. 10 year timeframe on full automation and no crew members.

Locals and trains that require switching will still have a 2-3 man crew. Yard crews will still be needed as there is talk of removing RCO as part of PSR

so to save that $300M that the board approved of last month for technology updates they decided to cut 700-800 jobs last month. Salt Lake City shop had 77 on their roster and cut 50 of them. With more responsibility added to the employees. The day the cut happened as the laid off employees were cleaning out their lockers, managers and foreman were calling mass overtime. Then to add to that, U.P gave everyone 5 days severance pay. Remember if Lance Fritz gets fired or “laid off” his severance is several million. This company is pure greed. One man crews are coming yet UP emphasizes safety is number 1..... no U.P your profits are number 1 and you truly don’t care about safety. Only reason you guys preach safety is because the U.P lottery for an injured employee hits your pockets. If it didn’t affect your bottom line you guys could careless about safety. Employees are just a number anyway

100% true. Leadership conference last year talked about it and how it was innovative and a major cost savings.

With new ptc and engineers looking at computer screen 70% of the time the defector of the CAR said a 1 man crew is out of the question and that is why the conductor is now licensed to assure 2 people are equally resposible. I trust the govt more than rumorville.

Folks. Anything is possible. Whether it's feasible...or prudent does not matter. If they want to push it thru, be sure, they'll do it regardless the consequences. Yes there will be big time problems and they could give a rats arrrse as long as it moves them toward huge profits. Don't doubt the power of Greed and Selfishness.

What is your source? How does the railroad intend to bypass federal regulations?Railroading will evolve into one person crews as technology improves. We are not there yet and certainly not imminent for one person crew implementation. Realistically, I would see one man crews in a 3-5 year timeline.
