Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

PSE PSI

Sorry to break the news..

PSI makes approx $2000 bonus for every sale... What's fair to the other specialist that have to work up their estimates for them and get nothing.

PSE makes about $100 to $200 on every sale.. they just have more sales then the psi.. This is really not fair to the other associatioes..Not to mention as a specialist, I have to be on sales floor the whole day. I have to DSHR, Downstocking,IRPs,Freight, zone recovery, customer service, and still have to maintain budget. Bet yet,, I help psi with quotes, but I get norhing.. Our production office does nothing but cover our psi and pse butts.. the pse is out playing golf all day, and complains if he have more then 2 appointments a day. Must be nice living the high life people, while all the specialist doing you alls work...

This is some rather funny stuff coming from the pse and psi people. Has it ever occured to any of you that some of us specialist have had the same type of job as your in the past? That being said, the very reason that you get to go to your leads have already basically been sold but you are in the way of the process? Has it ever occured to any of you that some of us specialist are over qualified for our position but somehow you were already in the position you are in because you were there first? Some of us specialist could have sold the whole project without you. You are not needed in the grand scheme of it all. Some of us specialist are very capable of going on site and measuring, selling, etc... You are no glamour kings or queens. Just egotistical Glamorized specialists that get to take all of the credit for Some of us highly educated and sales oriented people. your job is not needed if some of us Specialists were able to go on site.

All these posts just support what was done today. PSI doesn’t work.......... not even store associates support it.

If your pse or psi and pushing bugys and pulling orders.. you, my friend, are getting ripped.. Look at the wage laws.. if you are salaried plus commission, then it's against the law for Lowes to ask you to do that.. you can sale and do anything that has to do with your sale.. but nothing more. Again I choose not to be pse or psi..

I assume everyone think it's fair that pse and psi get commission and sales specialist do not... that's messed up..

Again, try he psi program was that all specialist work up quotes for psi.. it's in the manual.. so don't argue that's not my store does.. it's in the manual.. read your job description.

Anyhow.. psi are gone from what we hear.. pse does work up their quotes. But pse still get big commissions and do not have the other responsibilities of specialist.. I hate they are losing jobs too. But it's a failed program.. if lowes is not performing then we all lose our jobs.. to be honest, the psi program would work if it was better coordinated. Had more people involved.. If FSM held GCs responsible for their estimates.. but nothing happens.. I see pse going away too soon.. I see marvin asking himself, why am I losing 100k year per store for a a salesman, that I can do the same with a detail process.. mill work specialist can work up quotes.. pro can work up quotes.. think about it.. it's about profit..

As a former successful PSE I didnt have time to play golf or fish... I routinely worked 70-80 hrs a week. I was the #1 lead generator in my store by cold calling and networking. I offered associates $100 cash for sold jobs over $3500 and it did nothing to generate leads because people who choose to be in-store associates are by-in-large unmotivated to succeed, otherwise they would be in performance based careers.... Often I had to go fix our installers work because it was just easier than dealing with irate customers and ineffective CPO associates who would kick the can. I started at 0600 and ended at 2000 most nights, 6 days a week. My phone was never off and rarely could I take a day off without hearing from customers or the store. I doubt the OP could close a customer the way a PSE has to... The OP's customer comes in and says "How much is this" the OP gives them a price, maybe sets up a measure and calls them back after they get the detail back. If customer buys, great, if not, no big deal, just wait for the next one to come in. The PSE is expected to take the lead and close right then. When the customer says Window World or ABC roofing is $2500 cheaper, tough, close it and close it now... Believe it or not selling is a learned and perfected skill, at the end of the day the salesperson carries way more people on their back than a terminal jockey handing out quotes and telling people what aisle finish nails are located...

Your store must be a rare gem. I was a PSI for two years and my specialist never worked up estimates because they were always done incorrectly. I know that was the way most every store in our market was. You also don't realize that you work 40 weeks and PSI's that I worked with including myself averaged at least 60 hours a week. I think the fact that there has been two civil law suits that Lowe's has had to pay out to all PSI's for basically not getting paid enough shows that.

We had a great team and our store was thriving. I feel for all my peers and friends who are losing their job today. Everyone has their own experiences within their store. Each Lowe's runs their show completely different. That's the problem. Lowe's has always been inconsistent.

As a former Lowe's employee who went from specialist to PSI, all I can say to the OP is "bitter much?" As a PSI, I left my house at 630am (sometimes earlier), went on appointments, came to the store, met with more clients, helped customers (not PSI customers) pick out a fridge, find the right light bulb, locate the bathrooms, etc... I worked most of my own quotes (due to sour attitude specialists - maybe I worked at your store????) did cart round ups, rang register - you name it, I did it. After skipping lunch to try and qualify the customer that you couldn't/wouldn't, I'd get prepared for my afternoon & evening appointments. Yes, I would do a pre-con at 7 am and schedule an in-home for 6pm the same day. I had many 50, 60, and even 70 hour work weeks - do the math and tell me what that hourly wage comes out to now (maybe $10/$11 hr). So, you want to talk budgets? If your PSI does their job, then you will meet your budget without even trying. And lets just stop crying about our commission. Yes, if you hit all the margins and the customer didn't use a discount, then maybe, just maybe one of those jobs would be worth it. But 99% of the time all it did was take that $10/$11 hr back up to maybe $14/$15 on a good day. And you can throw that manual in the trash! Here is how it really goes -- PSI has to get store to buy into the program so they get leads - PSI goes on in-home with GC - PSI has pressure from MM to close the sale in 7 days - PSI works up quotes b/c of sales pressure/attitude for specialist like you/time constrains - PSI works 65 hours a that week to complete all sales and make budget - PSI submits job (all in specialists name so they get credit for budget) - PSI has to track down missing product because specialist just pushed out OM with "PSI job" without checking - Job starts - customer complains the sun is too hot - PSI has to take calls b/c CPO won't - PSI gets phone calls at 2am, 3am, 4am, from angry client - PSI contemplates becoming an entertainer at the local gentleman's club - Job is done - sun is still too hot - customer gets a refund - PSI gets hosed....... And that is why I no longer work there. God bless all those who are losing jobs today. But there is life outside of Lowes!

PSE make much more than you all think you know. And for the one PSE that said you can’t mark up shingles and or lumber you are wrong as well. If you read the commission threshold paperwork it gives you the numbers to mark the materials at. If your store mgr or sales Mgr tells you otherwise then they only care about themselves bc that isn’t how the program works. I make commission on pickets, concrete, all lumber, all labor, I wasn’t in the top five in yearly sales not by $200k but guess what I was #4 in commissions earned. You my friend are getting racked over the coals. Your store is pushing you how they want not the program.

This is so far from the truth lol. PSEs that actually work make about $90k-$100k they make more than 95% of the PSIs. But a specialist complaining they do all the work and get nothing. You chose your job. I would say don’t be bitter when you could have applied like everyone else.

I’m a PSI and did all of my own quotes, designs, project management and problem follow up when production office dropped the ball. I even scheduled my own deliveries and delivered product when our outsourced company refused to do it. I gave my specialists credit and the sales boost when I did ALL of the work.

Believe me, there are plenty of PSI’s like me in the company and you will feel a HUGE impact of our loss at the store level.

MIC DROP LMAO 😂

Not trying to argue with you nor am I concerned about losing my job today. I’ve been a SM with HD for 10 years been one with Lowes just stepped down to help out with my elderly parents. What I am saying is that it’s not as prosperous as you think. My store doesn’t do a million a year I’m using that as an example. My store target is 500k I’ll do around 580k this year. What I am saying is yes it’s nice to get commissions I am not disagreeing but with prices of aluminum siding lumber etc going up it makes it very difficult to hit your commission. Be a prick if you want. Times like these I prefer to hope and pray for ones that will be effected by any changes etc. I hate seeing anyone lose their job period and have families to take care of etc. Guess some people choose to complain about others instead of wishing them a good future and hoping they can rebound quickly but do as you wish. I don’t carry microphones so I won’t drop any. Thanks though.

At least you have a commission threshold.. Sales specialist don't have a commission at all.. and why don't I become a pse or psi.. that's simple.. I'm not the one that's scared I might be losing my job today...

This is the dumbest post I’ve ever seen. As a PSE I make a base salary plus commissions. What you fail to realize is there is a commission threshold. Do you think we commission off of a wood fence on materials? No. Generators and hvac are 4% commission but if they use military or 5% discount on Lowes card you lose that commission. If you sell a million a year you will do well to make commission on 600k. You can’t mark up shingles. You can’t mark up lumber etc. it’s not as easy as you think. And if you are so bitter so go be a psi or a pse and see what we are held to standard wise. I typically run 3-4 appointments per day and the only slow down is winter. My phone rings constantly when I am done for the day or off for the day. Does yours?? No you go home and are left alone. Xbox and golf I wish. And no I don’t Think a millwork associate can go in home and sell a full window job roof job and siding job. Totally different. And cpo is a joke. We still deal with install issues if we have them I assure you. You’re off your rocker with that statement or have a bad PSE.

Never said pse did nothing.. i said they have 2 appointments a day that someone else got them the lead for.. PSE get commissions, the sales specialist have 100 plus customers to help all day.. get leads.. downstock.. irp.. put up freight.. zone. While pse takes a lead that was givin them.. get paid mileage to drive to their hoyse. Give them estimate and go home the rest of the day.. just saying its a good job.. but specialist are getting put thru the ringer..

PSI is different. The specialist actually have to work the estimate up for them..

Specialist are getting the shaft.. and i believe Lowes is seeing it.. think about how much money lowes is spending on commission.. then subtract the issues, complaints and compensation back.. now think about this.. can a millwork specialist sell a fence, roof, deck, gutters or windows for installation.. yes... can a cabinet specialist sell a cabinet install with a floorinf install? Yes.. this was all done before the pse psi program.. lowes is seeing that its not profitable..

I am a PSE. During the spring I work 6 days a week 50-60 hours each week. If I don’t sell I make around $15 per hour. My job is on the line if I don’t make sales. During my down time my phone is constantly ringing with customers and the production office calling me. Don’t get me wrong I have the best/most profitable position in the company, but to say that I don’t do anything is BS

Specialists sit in the break room all day on their fat self absorbed millennial assess while we get to deal with their clients. When we put the same under their name for credit, and numbers, they cry the blues. They should make a bonus, that would improve their stock greatly but that’s not the case. Same thing will happen with the replacement psi/pse folk. Can’t wait to hear how captain Marvin tells us how great the voyage on titanic is going today.

Clueless? Let's break out the psi manual.. go to connections my dear friend and pull it up..

Psi does the inhome, with the gc.. the psi gets with the specialist.. that is what the program says to do. The specialist gets credit for the sale as well.. but the specialist does not make commission. If something is wrong with the order, the specialist is responsible. The psi is only responsible to make the sale and that's it.. it's in the manual.. got the manual right beside me.. I see our psi just dmsitting there all day.. that's it.. the pse does not get with the specialist, maybe I worded it wrong, but the pse only does 2 quotes a day.. they rest of the day they are gone playing xbox or golfing..

PSE marks everything down and loses money on most jobs, comes in the store once a week, stays home and sleeps the rest of the days.

There's some good ones out there though..

No BS.. what is not correct.. figure the commision.. average psi sale is 40000 to 50000 and average pse sale is 3000..

Psi job is to team up with specialist to work up estimate. After tender, it goes to production office and psi and pse are told to not touch it anymore.. this is all facts..

Follow a specialist around all day and see what they have to do.. now follow your psi or pse around.. see what they don't do.. then let's compare checks.. hmmm ...

You clearly have no idea how either program works or what the psi and pse actually due during work hours and off hours. Either you are very bitter and complain about everything or just misinformed.

You are clueless or you’ve got some real d---beats in your store , and if so Management should deal with them accordingly.
