Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Quit Crying

I do not understand why all the people get on here just to demonize the company. Get over it. You do not own the company, you obviously have not moved to a postition that directly influences the direction the company wants to go. Your only responsibility is to come to work, do your job and the company compensates you for it. If the company decides your job is no longer needed, so be it. Bottom line, it's not your decision, you are and always will be replaceable, the only thing the company owes you is a paycheck for the work that they determine is needed. If you want to make the sort of decisions that the company makes then you'll need to start your own business or move your way up the "corporate ladder". Lastly, to the snowflake leftists that insist that you cannot earn a living wage at Walmart/Sams, remember, you aplied for the job, they did not come looking for you. You want better pay, then get an education and work hard to achieve your goals. Quit blaming everyone for your short comings. Quit having children out of wedlock. Quit buying things that you cant afford. Live within your means, not within the "Jones's" means.

Replying to quit crying, if you don’t like what people are saying here, drink some more Kool aid, go to bed, go to the club early tomorrow, I’m sure someone will notice..........NOT lol , keep thinking they care about you.

The original thread is correct. Why bother joining in hate. Looks like he or she uses the left side of his or her brain. Logical thinking and articulating thoughts is a good thing don't beat them up for expressing an opinion. Calling people snowflakes probably isnt right, but neither is wacko, crazy etc.

Solace in shared misery. Now that is one sad statement. I guess misery does love company. I think many of the users on this site may benefit from some Celexa. Good luck to you all.

Don’t forget:

*Safety lunches and drawings for money every 30 days accident free.

*Company contributed profit sharing.

*Time and a half on Sundays.

Some of us have been here long enough to remember things that used to make you feel like you were part of a family and not just a company.

  • Christmas bonus

  • A free pie on Thanksgiving

  • A free ham on Christmas

  • A $1 an hour extra on Sundays for taking time away from your family

  • Hazard pay for meat cutters and fork lift certified drivers

  • Merit increases at CM discretion

  • A raise tied to your performance

  • Company picnics

  • Associate appreciation events

  • Charity sporting events

  • Company softball/bowling/etc. teams

All of those have gone away in the last 10 to 15 years as the company has moved away from "in business for small business" to "compete with BJ's, NO!, compete with CostCo, NO!, compete with Amazon!". Executives that held business morales and ethics have gone away for executives who only care about shaving costs and increasing profits to appease shareholders. Member service used to matter - now we have to take pictures on Saturdays of associates cleaning sent to corporate to prove that we're actually cleaning. Or take pictures to prove we stocked the club, or stocked the cooler and freezers, or to prove the cart rail is complete.

The company is now in "ah-HA! gotcha!" mode on walks rather than brainstorm ideas to increase sales, or fresh penetration, or ANYTHING.

We come here to vent anonymously. Because venting at your club results in retaliation. Because no club is running smoothly, no club has zero problems, and every manager and club manager is out to find the next scapegoat for a problem to preserve their own employment just a little longer until they can find something else.

There's solace in shared misery. And with the cost of living where it is currently, not many people can afford to "walk away, go get a new education, find a new job and start over".

Just as a friendly fyi, i am also a 20 year associate. Like you, i've been through several of these restructures and I am still here. The difference, unlike you I realize that we are not under contract, we are not skilled labor, we are paid for the most part to perform really simple work. If that work is not required then what do you expect? A parade honoring your loyalty? We are not saving babies or curing cancer, we pull pallet jacks! Respect for the individual, what are they doing to disrespect you? They are operating a business. I am not a majority stock holder and I'm sure you aren't either, we don't have the luxury of calling the shots, its above our paygrade.

In response to the original post, you’re wrong. We do own the company. We, as associates (long term) are shareholders. The company used to invest in “people” and they had “respect for the individual”. Among the other basic beliefs that started this company. We’ve gotten away from that and it shows. Some things we can’t control, but others we can. Such as choosing to stick with it or bail. What some can’t comprehend is that most of us who are long term (20 years or more) have invested our dedication and trust in this company and have chosen it as our career. The 20something year olds will never understand this because they have not given the same loyalty and dedication. Yes, we feel betrayed. Only because we know the hard work and dedication we have given is no longer appreciated. Comment as you wish but if you’re a 20somethibg year old saying stop crying, you clearly don’t get it. We have a right to feel this way. It has become an abusive relationship for a lot of us and many know it’s not so easy to just leave. You say it’s not personal. Of course not. But once upon a time family and values were a thing this company preached and we are sad because we see what was is no more and it was a great place to work. It was a career. And it was a happy place. Greed has taken over.

What good has the complaining and venting done for you? Others? Seems to me the original poster is spot on. Furthermore what right do you have to criticize the company for their legal actions, they don't need your approval. Free marketplace is exactly what it sounds like, walmart can make whatever decisions it see's fit to operate their business, if they succeed, then, good and if they fail, then, oh well, some other company will take advantage. Regardless of the outcome, you are not bound inside, you can choose to stay or go, there aren't armed guards keeping you there.

Think of it this way, does your employer have say on how you run your house, do they tell you when to put your children to bed, what time dinner will be, who's in charge of cutting the grass..........? No, it's your decision, good or bad.
