Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Schedule Rotations Going Away

Our store manager said this morning there’s a very good possibility our rotations will be eliminated. No more two days off together, you will NOT know what days you work until schedule drops!

This is what we were told, no BS!

the rotations is something that we can go by to spend time with family, make appointments, not use up all our vacation. Lets face facts management as it is doesn't even know how to make a schedule so don't see how this improves things. To top it off you have to email and call them 20 times just to have them do something on your schedule. A monkey would do a better job at making schedules.

Re: rotations are a total disaster

1) In many departments ( esp those that have both pro’s and DIY customers) there is no real way to know when “customers will be there”!

2) Knowledgable, intelligent and dedicated long term employees who become PO’d, stressed, overworked, disgruntled employees will leave, and take some or in some cases many of their repeat customers with them.

3) Newsflash! If you want employees to make/ keep customers happy, then do whatever you can within reason to keep your best, most knowledgable employees reasonably happy. Because good morale is infectious, the flip side is that bad morale is as well.

Management needs to try standing on their feet for 8 hours a day and pulling heavy appliances or tile, etc. Let them see how exhausted they are doing that. Let them realize that every person needs to have two days in a row off to recharge. Two days are needed regardless of what type of job but especially when it is physical. Sitting at a desk like upper management is one thing but working on the floor and being on your feet is extremely physical. During hell week, one day off just does not cut it. People will always be exhausted, calling out sick, etc. You are literally running people into the ground. I thought slave days were a thing of the past but working at Lowe's is like the old factory slave mentality supposedly we outlawed. Right to work states means right for the company to enslave you and it is wrong to treat employees worse than abandoned dogs.

The schedule posts 3 weeks in advance and you can put in time off requests as unpaid days if you need specific dates for appointments. Stop acting like not having rotations will ruin your lives. Most retailers dont do rotations. They were always mesnt as a suggestion anyway, not a rule. If your managers never scheduled against a rotation then they are id--ts.

“ If you believe your skills are so amazing and you are such a superstar then it should be easy to go get a job at the magical retailer that does everything perfect that you think exsists.”

Many retailers do it better. Retail has many different business types. My girlfriend sells fragrance for a premium retailer. My cousin is a buyer for a luxury retail brand. Lowe’s employees get stuck in the grind and need to realize once they know merchandizing and the basics of retail it’s best to move on to something better. Lowe’s won’t respect their associates until they can’t find anyone to apply for jobs. It’s all about supply of jobs and demand.

The person I’m replying to sounds like a middle manager that believes his role is to ridicule and minimize employees hard work. Make them believe they aren’t doing enough... Don’t fall for those traps. You only have one body and it’s not worth breaking it down for $17 an hour.

I don’t see a problem with a set weekend off but it appears that there are not only numerous people who have every weekend off, others with accommodations who can only work 7 hours a day with as many breaks as they need and also lots of call outs on weekends.

Proper management of hours and also hand slapping for those who call out on weekends would help a lot more then taking rotations away.

Lowes is going to end up with angry employees. And angry employees are not good workers.

@ The dumass's who think they know everything. If you hire smart and knowledgeable workers, not these knuckle dragging mouth breathers in the mo--nic open houses that have sprung up to fill positions. Another Niblock idea that screwed this company royal. Now the one who are actually worth a c-ap are going to be bent over. ,.!..

The absolute best thing for Lowe’s would be for all the negative people on here to leave the company. A big reason depot is thumping Lowe’s is how entitled some of the Lowe’s employees are. If you believe your skills are so amazing and you are such a superstar then it should be easy to go get a job at the magical retailer that does everything perfect that you think exsists. In my experience the people the wine the most know deep down they can’t get better and it kills them to realize that !!! Sad.

This is pretty much how EVERY OTHER REAILOR operates. Corporate rotations limit the ability to staff for customer traffic. Just wait till workday roles out. It will optimize your schedule for staff to be scheduled when customers are there and when it’s slow.... your hours will drop. If your not in management then retail isn’t a career it’s a paycheck

Taking rotations away proves that management has been failing to hire qualified motivated sales people. If the stores were recruiting, hiring, training and retaining talented people they could step up and fill the in for the 10-6pm the stores get fairly busy on weekends.

By putting this extra pressure on those that have faith in the company they will alienate more

associates. Those associates will vent to their neighbors and friends. They will tell people and word of mouth will continue to erode the business.

I would be interested to know if the people designing this business model have economics degrees and from what schools. I would avoid those schools like the plague.

We don’t get tons of weekends off to the id--t who posted that. I don’t mind working weekends & having 2 days off during the week. But the rotation allows us to know when we’re off months in advance. If we do go to not knowing our days off until the schedule drops then Marv can shove it up his A==

Nobody mentioned Menards, they have weekends off. Why piss off the few good people left unless it is plan. Personally I don’t shive a get. My goal is one year and get the he$$ out. They are a failed business

If you have quality salespeople that aren’t there when the customer is then who cares ???? The entire premise of scheduling is to match customer and salesperson. If the schedule isn’t right for the salesperson then maybe they shouldn’t be in retail ??

Like a set schedule. It’s impossible to make doctor appointments and such without it Two days off in a row is important. Otherwise it gets exhausting esp when you work outside

this is typical of someone who has no life other than work. Don't get me wrong, i know weekends are the busiest time as i have been in sales for 32 years. That said, if you really want this copmany to be "different/ better" than the competitor who beats you routinely, then Be different and better. Quality salespeople also have a life to live, so if you need more weekend coverage then hire more people so you can achieve both coverage and life balance. If someone has to work all weekends then they might as well work for the better of the two evils. Why can't we keep one of the few advantages we have over the Orange. But the again this would surprise nobody as we just copy the leader and yet somehow expect to better them.

The rotations are a total disaster. Let’s be honest. They have nothing to do with customers. Most of our sales is on the weekend but we give tons of weekends off. Makes zero sense. I worked at depot for over 10 years and hardly ever had a weekend off because I was paid to help customers. Duh
