Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM RA Severance Pay

I can't fathom how they can change the severance pay. When I was absorbed by IBM, we were sold on the company culture and being true blue etc. Part of the reason I didn't jump ship was that they had specific benefits at the time. I never imagined a company would or could change the severance pay package. There's got to be a better way around that. 1 month for working at IBM for decades doesn't jive. We don't get raises, the deductions from my check go up each year, the insurance benefits cost more and coverage shrinks, we don't even get a cost of living raise even if we're top performers and this is due to budget constraints, or it's that someone who is friendlier or closer to the boss gets the small raises. We're working for less and less money every year. How can IBM promote it's ideals internally and then publicly 8itch slap us.

IBM changed their policy to legal minimum 3 years back... It was hurting their bottom line to be decent and do the right thing by loyal employees. Thing is, other corporations are seeing this and are probably in the process of following IBM's lead.

@WZQmhLN Why so surprised? They changed the severance package two years ago.

We have to pay for our own phones in the Dubuque center!

The only thing more pathetic than that are the people who put up with it. -Groucho

30yrs. Recruited many into IBM prior to 5 yrs ago. Downhill fast since. Left last year on my own terms and timetable. IBMers underestimate their value outside IBM. Life is much better outside. Sonmany places to go and be happy and appreciated. Depending on the time of year you get serious it can seem hard but stick with it and you will lnd something awesome. Everything is better outside IBM these days. Used to be a great company and culture. No more. Its hard initially but you will look back and say “I wish I would have left years sooner”. I have 2 dozen ex-IBMer friends who all say the SAME THING. You will NOT look back and say I wish I would have stayed longer. LEAVE WITH A SENSE OF URGENCY!!!!!!!!!

I computed my income loss based on CBI only - did not the compute the loss of benefits - and the total loss in 12 yrs is over 18% since I joined IBM. My total loss is over 150K over the years. My spouse and I came to the conclusion I could not afford to work for IBM with 2 kids in university. I left IBM and got a job at a company that rewards much better. Pity that IBM have no clue anymore where the North Star is.
