Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Greed has taken over

We do own the company. We, as associates (long term) are shareholders. The company used to invest in “people” and they had “respect for the individual”. Among the other basic beliefs that started this company. We’ve gotten away from that and it shows. Some things we can’t control, but others we can. Such as choosing to stick with it or bail. What some can’t comprehend is that most of us who are long term (20 years or more) have invested our dedication and trust in this company and have chosen it as our career. The 20something year olds will never understand this because they have not given the same loyalty and dedication. Yes, we feel betrayed. Only because we know the hard work and dedication we have given is no longer appreciated. Comment as you wish but if you’re a 20somethibg year old saying stop crying, you clearly don’t get it. We have a right to feel this way. It has become an abusive relationship for a lot of us and many know it’s not so easy to just leave. You say it’s not personal. Of course not. But once upon a time family and values were a thing this company preached and we are sad because we see what was is no more and it was a great place to work. It was a career. And it was a happy place. Greed has taken over.

Great post @WY7022I-1hik ! You hit the nail on the head.

From the last comment you can see the mentality of the new workers. Do as little as possible expect nothing. You can’t comprehend what we used to have with this company. We gave everything we had and in turn got appreciated and respect. We were proud to come to work and felt good about the job we did, went home feeling accomplished. While the new generation walks around with their heads buried in their phones, commenting about things they have no clue about, judging our feelings etc. They aren’t capable of understanding the situation at hand. Change is not bad, but how you go about the changes says it all.

Now here is a socialist for sure. You want everything but cant seem to understand that you are owed nothing. Go ahead, steal from the rich to give to the poor. Makes sense, why work for it if you can get it for free.

I understand what you are saying. This was our career, not just a job. I also understand the business side. That being said, it still is hard when you have invested so much in a company . This is a lesson we all can learn from , do what you have to do while you are there. Nothing more nothing less. When they want, they will replace you or close your club, as mine did last year.

I know the stress you feel right now. But I chose to take the severance and go to a different company. Crazy thing is I make more now at the new company than I made after 25 years with Sam's. It is hard to change, and lose a job we took pride in, a company we trusted. Especially one we thought we might retire from. But there are better opportunities out there. This just forces us to find them. Step out of our Sam's comfort zone. Good luck to all current and former associates.
