Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

If you’re a neighborhood store, prepare for a lot of job cuts

Spring Ownership 2019 just came out. Many small stores are eliminating the full time position in AST. The only full timer will be the ASTS with a part time and flex colleagues. Announcement on the consolidating districts and store closures will be next week. If you’re a Flagship, G50 or G100 store, your jobs are safe. If you’re a neighborhood store, prepare for a lot of job cuts. Mostly everything will be self service (open sell) and a huge promotion for ‘Scan & Pay’.

I hope that @WX6DdoG-2nbh is wrong about this, but his sadly this makes perfect sense.

So for stores that are not making profit, can I be sure I will not get laid off this month after inventory?

I believe F.M. Is a good guy, but it is cruel to celebrate a change that will cost jobs. He must not have known the full ramifications of the changes in Colorado. All you see on LinkedIn are posts with managers posing with their Path To Growth checks. The bad holiday results surprise me. #PTG?

I work in Colorado and our new DVP was in our store last month celebrating and telling our team how lucky we were to be an investment store in 2019. Our store manager told us this week that he was talking about was our store becoming a neighborhood store. Guy stood up in front of the entire store and had us clapping and telling us how lucky we were, now I find this site and learn that it means huge staffing cuts and most of us have worked here for 20 years or more. Yeah, our store isn't closing but 30% to 40% staffing cuts with this new program and we all clapped about it. Does anyone know if these staffing cuts for neighborhood stores are for certain?

Small store here. We just went open sell in shoes and its staffed. Non commission and the git a raise to their avg commision hourly wage. no loss in jobs.

We went to the 1 FT 1PT and flex ast two years ago without issue. no loss ..someone moved to another position. (because in retail some is always coming and going)

We just added At your service they combined zones and added hours.

Most small stores are already at the lowest staffing. They are doing more centralizing customer service. Removing and combining cash wraps etc.

Ok thanks for the reply. They will probably wait until Q4 like they do everything else. Have ever one running in a panic to execute. Probably holding off to see if the economy goes into recession.

From what I see on the portal, it looks like the neighborhood stores are 016, 020, 564 and 568. I could be wrong but the report is called neighborhood pilot.

How do you know if you are a neighborhood store. Is it by size or volume?

Most small stores already eliminated the FT AST, two years ago. Just have the ASTS and a part time, and maybe a flex or two.
