Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Did anyone get placed internally yet?

I am curious to know if anyone has successfully found another job within Cisco after the layoff.

There was a talent expo last week, and several people are due to turn in their badges on Friday.

Did anyone hear yet from the talent expo?

OP. Yes, the job market seems pretty good.

I have no doubt that there is a bigger lay-off coming after the expo HR put on this week for displaced workers.

No more LRs in CX, it's done. But contractors in CX will be decimated before the shutdown week.

Yes, but what is more interesting is that more people appear to be happy to take the package than apply for the new roles. Loyalty cuts both ways. CX could have moved people into the new roles without LRing or putting at risk.

Why would you go through the hassle of the ridiculous internal recruitment process at Cisco when a) there’s a reasonably good job market outside and b) it’s common knowledge in CX that there’ll be another LR round in March.

Too many people. They must be shunted out.......especially H1Bs

Nope. Some impacted orgs are waiting until after termination dates for impacted employees before they put up new job requisitions in December.

So much for Chuck's speech on giving internal jobs priority to those impacted.

Trying to find an internal position in RTP after being laid off in CX.

Several people have reached out to help but the HMs say that they are slammed with resumes.

Are these positions being filled before the cutoff date? Are they real positions? It’s hard to tell.

I understand why people are upset at CSCO but I think the company is making necessary changes... just wish they included me.

I’ve hired two people that were impacted by LRs. One I knew. It happens, having aN internal network is huge.

Yes some people you think will help stonewall and turn silent - i faced the same on exit recently.

It was a more distant classmate and a former manager outside who unexpectedly reached out to offer good help.

LR is a good litmus test of who are really helpful or not. Fair weather friends are many.

Expect very little help internally should you be hit. People want to forget you exist. I think the best way to look at it is to take your experience to a competitor. I am in this situation now and can't believe what I am getting from people I have worked with for years. The silence is deafening. And I have been an awarded contributor.

Its depends on who you know. I have seen bizarre moves where people did not have the skill / experience and got placed in a different group at Cisco. Overtime this just increases the Cisco cesspool.

The sales organization is the only business unit at Cisco exempt from large layoffs.

As ever in Cisco, it’s all about your network - not so much what you know, but who you know.

Yes, a few of my team has been placed within CX and in Sales. Some of us are still waiting on interview outcomes and new job postings as promised.

I am a CSE and have been trying hard to get out of services and apply for other roles within Cisco. My colleagues have moved on to other roles within Cisco. Not sure, how they were able to transition so effortlessly. Although, I have the skills getting the recruiter's attention is such a challenge. On reaching out to them they mention that I do not have the experience. Its disheartning and frustrating.

why would you give up severance and signing bonus?

It is very rare, and frankly a huge disservice to those affected to even advertise the possibility. Before the frequent LRs, there is always a hiring freeze. Those positions show up on paper but are hard to execute. If you land one of them, you’re the low guy on the totem pole next cycle.

For many reasons you are better to concentrate your efforts externally.

I left Cisco last year in June via LR. All open positions were "frozen" or "lost" I got a call the last day of my 30 days with a "hard close" discussion about making a decision by end of day. I passed. Severance was nice, but finding another comparable role was stressful. I landed at a startup for 14 months; which was just what I needed. Entitled, unskilled workforce that was severely overpaid. What now? I came back to Cisco and will just deal with the chaos at this point... The devil you know vs. the one you don't. To your point though, there are plenty of jobs out there and having Cisco on the resume certainly doesn't hurt.

It is difficult to find a job inside. Most positions remain on papers for ever. This was told by a recruiter. Finding a job outside will be much easy.
