Well, Roseville, Ca has been hit by furloughs in the mechanical side. All crafts were hit, machinist, electricians, MSOs and boilermaker
Was told by the Director of Labor relation that no one is guaranteed the 5 weeks that your application will go to a selection committee you May or maynot be selected the the selection process will end on December 13 and at that time you would be notified if selected No Guarantee !!!
Are you really going to believe anything a local chairman would tell you? The UP has kept everyone in the dark, until things start happening. I wouldn't believe someone that's not an actual part of the company! He's a representative of the employees, not the company. Any info he might have, was probably given to him by company employees that were let go! No one is being informed of who is being left go. Right now it's all speculation. Don't believe anything you hear, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
Roseville has not had any machinists or electricians laid off . All rumors . I’m a machinist here . But we know it’s coming
We are individual shop family’s being torn apart by the UP Corporate Office - stop criticizing a fellow co-workers grammar & spelling. If he/she wanted to be an ELA teacher, they’d have a Bachelor’s in Education and NOT be a carman, machinists, etc. Be nice, we are all hurting out here.
I'm surprised some of you grammar Nazi did not become teachers!! Oh wait, you have time now since "your" getting fired.
It irked me some too but not that damn much
"Miracle you ever got a job in the first place OP"
You Zuck!! Wrench turners don't need proper English you Doooosh.
I don’t think it’s total b---s---! I happened to be on the same seniority roster of a
Locomotive repair shop that Was closed, and not even my local chairman told us! I had to find out via my local tv news station as I was still wiping the sleep out of my eyes from working 3rd shift the night before! That’s the norm for railroad management!
Mechanical layoffs have already started, no need to wait for December 1st. Roseville had 9 union mechanics, Hinkle had 3 union electricians and 1 foreman. Let’s not forgot the shutdown of South Morrill. Wait until 2019. There will be more mechanical shops and more people. UP is using the trickle effect for layoffs. A little here and there to avoid a mass exodus from the workforce.
They are offering a special incentive for a limited time of an extra years vacation to get rid of locomotive mechanics if they leave by year end. You would get 2019 vacation anyway but will also give you 2020 vacation. So if you are retiring by year end an added bonus. Think due to storing so many locomotives there are too many mechanics now so this may help if a layoff were to come. They did this a few years ago and no one took it except the ones that were retiring anyway.
Thats when i would throw out old furniture
You must all ask yourself this one simple question. When is the best time to clean a home?
When it is empty
The vacation piece is not quite true. UP accrues vacation a year in advance. So you get whatever you haven’t yet used in 2018 plus what you are entitled to in 2019 since it’s 100% accrued.
The. Vacation for both years deal is true and is being offer d.
Getting word that many more Units/Locomotives are going into storage, up to 1000. Mech forces will be reduced to match these reductions. Personal that retire buy jan 1st will get 5 weeks paid vacation for 2019 as well as 5 weeks for 2018.
This is total B.S. I work there and haven't heard anything about this, all rumors.
Machinists, electrical, f&o local chairmen where?
Miracle you ever got a job in the first place OP, with sub-grade 1 English skills you possess. ESL students put you to shame, no joke.
"Are local chairman " Are- Our. I know they sound the same, but honestly, this is grade 1 stuff.
"there shutting down"
There= a place, a specific location.
They're= They are.
They are shutting down..
No, I'm not a grammar Nazi but when it's this bad, something needs to be said. Elevate yourself to grade 6 at least, then you'd join the masses of illiterates rather than being even worse than them
