Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Reuters story didn't even mention cost cuts!

If the journalists completely missed it, there's an issue with competence.

If the journalists didn't think it was important, there's an issue with news judgment.

If the journalists knew about it and knew it's important, and still didn't include it in their story, there's an issue with censorship/self-censorship.

In any case, what a disgrace.

im from refin and i was gobsmacked when i found out that we are paying $325m for reuters news.

reuters is neither here nor there. financial news wise their stories, columns etc are inferior to competitors. for general affairs i suppose they are alright but not in league of new york times.

will be a kick to guts if the savings from laying us off by the truckloads go toward paying for a product that's of no value to us or our clients

Reuters journalists never gave a c-ap about the non journalist staff, they could be let go by the thousand and barely get a mention.

However if you so much as take away the journalists free coffee and tea its all over the news.

I gave up on Reuters a while back.

Plenty of better alternatives out there: Bloomberg, specialised financial news providers, ZeroHedge, social media posts of the who's whos in finance.

For internal TR news, this Layoff site is a good grapevine.

The Baron is also doing an excellent job with the updates.

Question worth asking is, how did Reuters descend from being one of the top financial newswires to this sorry state?

Wonder what Refinitiv is paying $325m a year for? Maybe that's why they are bringing in someone new to lead Reuters News.

Reuter’s financial news is a joke compared to Bloomberg news

That’s why I only use Bloomberg to check financial news (too bad now they require subscription) I personally don’t even read Reuter’s news what a shame

Canadian Press got it right the first try and they're not even a big financial newswire like Reuters...

Indeed. Something probably has to be said about the quality of Reuters equity reporters nowadays. They can't even get a basic earnings story right.
