@2tou -- that is true VZ did sell a chunk of wireline but they needed the money so the props got sold. Vodaphone cost the company a sh-- load of debt. As well they sold fiber along with those properties.
Granted the company could take wireline and sell it off and make VZ nothing but a wireless company with advertising ambitions. No real problem because they will be not only be leasing back what they just sold but they will also be able to offload their tower techs and perhaps wireless switching centers to the sold off wireline side. Wireless wants to operate just like the 'paper carriers' of LD bygone days.
My personal belief is that Verizon will no longer exist as a brand in five years. Sell off or spin off the wireline and take the wireless database and the OATH / Yahoo properties and sell those to Goggle, Apple or whomever. Wireless can't be sold to another existing U.S. operator due to regulatory issues but it could be sold to a non regulated entity such as Google, MS, or Apple. All three of those companies have more money than God and could swing the capital to buy the wireless side.
