Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I got called into the manager's office today...

I sat there for 45 straight minutes while he grilled me about posting on this site. I denied it knowing there is no way they could ever prove it anyway, since I didn't use a company computer/wifi. He tried BSing me saying that HR had internet records that showed who posted what, even from home. I'm no computer genius, but even I am 99.% sure this is basically impossible. He finally let me go back to work after his scare tactics failed. I thought it was funny because of the Social Media notices on this site lately. Im pretty sure one of my co-workers ratted me out but I'm not coming in Thanksgiving so I know they will probably cut me anyway.

It's a place for affected people to discuss failing companies in all aspects. Don't be so literal.

Am I missing something. Sears is dead. That manager should be looking for a new job as well as the rest of sears employees. Forbes said there is no reason to shop at sears. Layoffs.com does not apply to sears..it's not a layoff..it's the end of the line

If this post gets removed it’s because you id--ts are throwing out names, not because there’s some crazy conspiracy to hide evidence.

Once again LMAO. This has to be a joke no way anyone from Sears can find out your posted here unless you used one of the companies computers to post here. If you didn't than your fine. It was a scare tactic maybe your store manager saw a post that sounded like you and was adding pressure.

No one should worry about here no way your going to get fired for no reason. Plus Sears doesnt have the resourced to do that since they are pretty much broke.

There's been too many times that Sears upper management has not openly told people on the Frontline what is going on. When Associates need to check the news to find out what the customers know before they go into work they should not be surprised that sites like this are utilized. People want to know what is going on and what to expect. We are people, when I was at Sears it seemed like most of management treated us like mushrooms....kept us in the dark and fed us bs.

Yes 30 year dos computer system and outdated IBM pos registers can track us. I remember we were still printing green bar sheets from the 80s in our kmart store around 2009 range. I remember when our system was too overwhelmed on a black Friday sale years ago with about 30 to 40 people in line. Oh the good old days dont miss it at all. Glad I'm long gone. At least I'm with a retail company that is winning now instead of doing things the wrong way for years.

Without reading the comments, you have amazing grammatical compliance for hardly messaging on a forum.

Sears cannot, not will not, nor should it even be possible for them to pull any type of tracking information from this website.

Stop the scare tactics, if the employees want to complain/argue/discuss/talk about their work place then they are allowed to by law.

OP here. My name isn't Kevin LOL. Im not worried about posting any of this because like I said, I'm basically quitting anyway. I refuse to waste my thanksgiving on a company that will be gone soon and they only give me minamal hours anyway. When I said someone ratted me out, I meant they told management that I posted here in the first place.

If you think that a bankrupt company with computers and technology from the 1990's has the money or the ability to track your computer use from home you are crazy. First, if somehow they could do this this would be an invasion of privacy not a First amendment issue. Second, it would be a public relations disaster for SHC to be spying on employees. Not that the company is not already a disaster as it is.

The only way they can disipline you for posting is if you are using the company time or network to post.

I just wonder how their new social media campaign by employees and stores will work out when employees start to post inaprropriate content.

First Amendment doesn't apply, but labor laws sure do. Employers can't dictate what employees do off hours. Lincoln ended slavery in the 19th century.

I didn't know this, so I did a google search:

The First Amendment and Social Media: The Rules Just Don't Apply

Because social media sites are owned by private companies, they generally fall outside the reach of the First Amendment. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/first-amendment-social-media

Since thelayoff.com is a private company, what are their rules for posting online on this website. We all should read the fine print before posting.

I had thought all along that the 1st Amendment protects us but the rules are different for those working for a private company and posting via a private company server (like thelayoff.com) - I sure will be more careful regarding what I post, going forward!

You see, if I were a particularly nefarious guy, if someone had told me they had just been grilled for 45 minutes about social media on this site, I would post that I had just been grilled for 45 minutes. Management is too dumb to catch on.

Sears doesnt have the resources to track anything. Plus this site gives the option of anonymity they make it easy to post. It's just scare tactics.
