It looks like just over 50% left here. Those near retirement age tended to leave unless they had a well defined short-term need. Top performers and unicorns tended to leave. Those who felt abused tended to leave. Those in hot IT locations tended to leave. Middle players split both ways.. Wallpaper tended to stay. The outright poor performers were lost long ago. They're going to backfill.

In my Senior Director's Wireless IT group the number who pushed the button is really close to 40%. Of those, nearly all of the senior managers pushed the button, one director, several key senior (experience wise) people, several senior (age wise) people. After the last two rounds of reductions there aren't that many mouth breathers left. Having said that, the few mouth breathers who are left didn't opt in. I suspect because they are worried about finding another job. There were also a few unicorns who decided to ride out the storm. These last have nothing to worry about because they are extremely employable.

There were not many retained in my group. Most were rebadged. Out of the retained, roughly 50% are leaving.

Have you met Hans? I think you two would hit it off quite well.

The whole "IT is mostly desktop support and has nothing to do with the core business" is just silly. "90% of apps can be shut down in 2 (or 3) years" is so ludicrous as to reveal a tragic misunderstanding of the entire space. And even if all claims were correct, would you care to wager what percentage of today's revenues are not 5G? 100%. 5G or not, the exist Fortune 100 business is where you'd see impact. Not in the 0% which won't even begin to have a trajectory for another two years.

5G is going to be great, but today's business has to continue well beyond 5G's introduction.

Listen. IT does not mean technology... until now it is like desktop suport...it is just one fraction of technology...actual technology means some thing else... 90 percent of apps can just shut down in two years after one year because of one fiber...it is product technology that matters.

There are hard core tech guys in vz...still who make things happen...

I thought IT had a high take rate and Directors and Managers were trying to convince technical staff to stay. Too many volunteers made it safe to stay. So who stayed and who left? The best and brightest or the welfare queens?

Not true? Nice use of bullet points, but your erudite proclamation seems to be refuted by the reality of this situation. The best and brightest chose to take the package and run. Those counter-examples aren't easy to find, are they?

Not true that people who left are competent, and not true that people who stayed are not competent.

Who will be opted?

1st Category

• People who are incompetent, and they felt they can’t get better package than this one.

• People who are incompetent, and they felt they can’t get better package than this one, and they won’t survive in next RIF

• People who are incompetent, they felt they can’t get better package than this one, and they won’t survive in next RIF, and they want to stay as much as possible to survive until June 2019….(Big Bang)

2nd Category

• People who are competent, very competent/highly skilled, but they believe that their leaders are in-competent, and ultimately they will be in RIF –because they want to bring their own bandwagon. These are the people where their leaders are in-competent, and people want to leave –just because of favoritism (They want their band wagon to keep their job….

It depends on situations of individuals

"Our dead wood and pets remained (they can't land new jobs). The highly skilled and high performers decided to take the money and run". THIS.

The others who went to Infosys will at least receive a signon bonus that's greater than an STI payment too. The losers were those retained who are staying like deer in the headlights.

Our dead wood and pets remained (they can't land new jobs). The highly skilled and high performers decided to take the money and run. Chemotherapy? No. More like self-inflicted wounds. Who designed this, and are they still employed?

40% is too big a number. In my fairly large group hardly 5% took it
