Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Are you Concerned about not finding a Equal or Higher paying job that you have now?

If not, how long do you think you can find one? Finding a lower paying job could eat up your Severance Money quicker than you think. 2-3 years down the road. Thoughts?

Already deeply in the interview process for two jobs that pay more then my current position. Got one part time to fulltime offer that would also pay more, so at least if nothing else shows up right away I can take the part time and see how it goes.

Truly it is. The recruiter said why I have been stayed here for so long. I am giggling the company is willing to give away a package for us to leave. There is more prosperity outside for your personal growth. I would consider leaving now even without the package if they keep us until June.

I spent the last few years allowing VZ to help me finish paying for my BS degree, my CCNP, and my CCIE. Just for giggles I created a Linkedin account and immediately began being poached for jobs...all of which are offering me 2x my c-appy salary at VZ and giving me more time to myself. The job market is good from what I can see if you've given yourself valuable skills...and probably still decent even if you don't have much to offer.

I'm tired of this miserable place...I'm tired of them not promoting and making my job a living hell day to day these last few years. I'm tired of being BSed by management on a daily basis. I'm out of here and have convinced most of my team that there is a future outside of this company...we didn't opt for the package but now seems many of us are going to leave as there are better prospects elsewhere. I want to be with a growing company, not a shrinking one...and a company that will actually pay me for well.

No because I don't have a spending problem like most Americans.

"Are you Concerned about not finding a Equal or Higher paying job that you have now?"

I have always known that I most likely cannot replace the salary/benefits I get at Verizon. I'm an individual contributor making > $100K. However I've lived below my means my entire working life, have maxed out my 401K for most of my career, live debt free, paid off my house, drive mid-level cars not luxury, etc. One of VZ's predecessor companies paid for my Masters degree (before the $8K max, mine as paid 100%). I busted my butt working all day then taking masters classes at night (in person, before there was an online option.) All of my choices for these many years have led me to this point where I can choose to leave Verizon while under 50 years old and know that I can maintain my current lifestyle with a significant pay cut. Best of luck to all.

"Verizon will pay for your college degree.".

8k....just sitting there.

I have co-workers who feel trapped not taking the VSP, mostly due to lack of education. I returned to school after seeing my division slowly dwindle. Thanks to VZ, I'm leaving with a bachelor's degree, and excited for new opportunities.

If you are hungry, my friend, Verizon will pay for your college degree. You just have to do the work. This is your chance to hang on to what you've got. Be a shark!

I don't have a degree, and they pay me way more than I have any business making. Looking for jobs with my current qualifications is depressing - I would be lucky to make about half. I would get close going straight to management at another company, but even then it would be a cut. It's the whole reason I didn't take the package.

Stability was an important factor at Verizon as a telecommunications provider. Up until now it was important to retain employees long-term and not become a revolving door for talent. So they were paying above scale, intentionally. The good nees here is that just about any long-term employee can use the lump-sum to pay down debt and maintain their current level of disposable income with less pay.

So the retention wages benefited employee and employer alike. If any employee can't find an equal level of pay, most of them will be just fine as long as they land their job sooner rather than later.
