Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Severance info?

They are paying severance to those who are full time in management and full time regular employees. Part time never did get severance and will not get severance now.

Full time management positions will now get up to 10 weeks. One week for every year you have been with the company for a max of 10 weeks. Cut from 20 weeks. Which means if you have been with the company 11 years or more at a full time managment position you only get a max of 10 weeks.

Full time employees, not management, will get a max of 4 weeks for every year of service. Cut from 8 weeks previously.

Those who were on severance when the BK was filed are the ones who need to file a claim because their severance stopped at whatever week they were on at the time of the filing.

Is this true? Where did this info come from? Can anybody confirm this?

That's why it is technically transition pay and not severance. I had an attorney review the paperwork and she just shook her head. She couldn't believe how badly Sears was treating their employees. She said to hang the termination clause over a terminated employees head is terrible. First they take your job and then without warning they can take away your separation pay. Good ethical companies don't do this.

The fact that they can terminate severance if you find another job has always been there. Nothing different in that regard

I was part of a large job elimination last week (all salaried management) and that is what we received. There is also a clause in the separation agreement that they can terminate the severance if you find another job prior to the end of the severance payment period.
