If you pay attention to the news, Illinois is in even worse shape than Sears

In IL most you can collect for unemployment is about $525 a week. if you have a dependent you will get an extra $25. Only for one dependent. So if you earned six figures salary you will be hard to live on that even though you have sizeable savings. Find a new job is better than waiting for a severance.

Yes I am still getting severance. I was let go in 1986. Must be a glitch in the system.

4 in 10 Americans don't have $400 in savings. If you go to college, which a majority of kids these days do, you start out life with a double crush of college and auto loan debt, and wages relative to cost of living have been in decline for a couple of decades now. The middle class is long gone, and so are Sears' customers, and if you think $1500 is a joke, give all your money to charity, try living in India at their average wage of under $1 a day, and see you manage.

@WiFROAy-ubj This big time! I don't know why people focus on severance pay so much people make it seem like its so much money. I am hearing you get 1 month if your full time employee so what is that like around $1,500 for a month more or less that to me is a joke.

Go look for another job their is life outside Sears. Sears is one of the worst companies ever at this point no future no benefits.

Read the message archives for this board.....as this same severance topic comes up over and over again with the same questions asked over and over.

@ubj I agree with you. Obviously there are extenuating circumstances for some people which must be considered. They stopped my severance after 5 weeks with no warning. That meant I also lost my health insurance and I had to go to COBRA which cost me $621 a month. Bummer.

Oh my god. People are obsessed with severance. People you need to go find another job. Don't count on a severance with Sears. Sears can, have, and will stop the severance anytime they want to. If you file a claim with the bankruptcy court you don't have a prayer because you will be placed at the bottom of the list of claimants as unsecured and the last to be paid after everyone else is. If you are counting on a severance you are shooting c-aps. I got out and now make more money with a solid employer with a future. Please do not rely on a severance from Sears.

Full-time employees laid off after Oct 15 are. Those who were laid off before Oct 15 had their severance interrupted and need to file a claim with the bankruptcy court.
