Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Retail " clerking"

Recently a fellow manager did a coaching on a-- and used the word " clerking ". I don't agree with it and would have done my coaching a lot differently. The same manager also believes that simply just doing coaching's is helping a--'s development. Verizon retail discourages the old "set up and go" and now pushes " smart set up"....oh the irony here. Clerking is absolutely the new norm based on what they want the average transaction time to be.

Our store reps are being coached out of their jobs, the commitments we have can never be met 100% of the time with every customer. None of us ever receive good coachings, only negative, and we all are ready to quit, what morale we had left went out the window with the new comp structure.

Well if you work in retail and sell things then you are a ckerk.

Sorry but true. The guy who sold me my car is just a clerk. Simple term for a simple job.

Oh and I used to do cold call sales. Two way radios. Commission only. No sale no pay.

Why are my DM and store managers not being coached??? I also wonder why if half the staff at my store is on some type of write up, why isn't a manager being held responsible???? Sounds like the managers can't coach the employees correctly if no one is hitting numbers. If management was doing their job correctly wouldn't we all be trained and smashing these "easy" quotas my DM and managers are always telling us about.

Coachings are not there to help you improve your sales skills.... there a documented way of getting you fired. There covering there own a-- so when/if they fire you. They can show you didn't do "you're job". Please all solutions specialists, GTFO, you know that place is a fn nightmare. The stress that place creates forcing you to push things unethically for the company while they cover there own a--. F--- that place. You all are being used heavily before layoff and rebadging is being done at the retail level.

Never had a positive coaching, had a lot that we're basically half truths because the managers don't know wtf is going on, these coachings are costing people their jobs, yet nobody above a manager seems to care.

The bigger issue here is how the “ coachings” are inconsistent from manager to manager. In our store I am fair as possible to all the solution specialists. We have one SM who is very friendly with a--. Every coaching he gives him is positive. In our district this SS is ranked 70 out of 75 reps on leaderboard. The coachings are inaccurate because of favoritism.

1uzg, unless you're new or on another planet, what 1dtv says is pretty much what happens in my and most stores, in the last 2 to 3 yrs things have gotten really bad, we can all see what's coming down the pike,if you don't, you will.

@1dtv, your story conveys you're a very sincere and caring person who is very loyal to the company. If what you claim is true, your treatment is unconscionable, treating a lockstep devoted V-Teamer poorly.

However, truth be told, your tale of woe is very hard to believe. I receive nothing but good treatment here, even in months where I don't perform as well as some others.

CPM, absolutely the truth, we are being written up and coached out of our jobs. You are right most customers walk in the door and say I want this or I want that, nobody comes in as says tell me what phone I want and why. When I ask some of these customers " probing" questions they look at me like I'm a fool. They may ask what the difference is between iPhone a or iPhone b, but they know they're going to buy a damn iPhone. If I ask a customer to tell me about their day they do one of two things, look at me like I'm from Mars or change the conversation to something else. My managers will try to sell to customers and get the same results, yet keep busting our nuts because we won't do this c-ap over and over. We just keep beating the dead horse, why can't I just sell the way I want to, and why do we only get negative coachings, I have yet to get a coaching that says what I did right! Why the hell can you write me up for 4 half-a-- made up coachings, out if the 100s of transactions i do per month, it only takes a few bad coachings to write me up, what about all the good things we as reps do.... they don't count. Just one of the many reasons no one wants to be here any longer.

You have to evolve... if you can’t are you actually a good sells rep? Not saying you are but you have to be able to sell more than just phones.

As a manager I take a realistic approach to retail sales and the customer walking into the store. The internet has certainly changed the way a person shops. Most people coming into a store nowadays already know what they want. Thankfully there is a lot less browsing. I encourage the solution specialists to “ check list” sell. Asking personal questions doesnt work anymore .

I have been a rep five years and am now screwed when the new pull through targets and commitments and coachings. I have never sold “pull through” and never had to, just relied on phones to make money. So it’s likely I’ll be coached out of a job even if I keep pitching our tabs and hums. Pretty sad end.
