Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Concerned

Managers keep saying, We won't know anything until after 12/10. They also say that they don't know if they have a job. Discussions about big projects for next year are stalled because know one is thinking that they have enough information to know how to even plan to begin thinking about how we will execute. At the market level from the director on down no one has a clue as to what is going on. After 12/10 remaining management is going to have about two weeks to scramble and try to assemble new work groups, set priorities, and plan for the new year's major projects all while being tasked to do performance reviews. I am concerned about the very real risk that folks might act out, get violent, develop health issues or simply shut down and stop performing. I hope for the best, but am concerned about what might occur with all the stress.

@1chz, your logic remained within the realm of rational up until your USPS analogy, which sent it careening off the rails and into deep left field.

What the heck R U taliking about?

In my team where everyone clicked YES morale has actually improved as we

gather around the "water cooler" reminiscing, talking about our future plans, worries

about getting a NO on 12/10 or last day in 2019. The number of

issues/request that regularly flooded my gmail/voicemail has dropped to near zero!

I suspect that given the chaos of not knowing who/what is going to remain next year along with those who clicked YES not caring that much anymore, and the holiday season have all combined to make the US Postal Service look like a startup compared to VZ..

There’s still a job to do. And regrettably people shutting down is leading to general malaise among the troops.

Think it is hard to keep motivational. Do you think a VP’s knows everything what being done or to do without the knowledge of the director. The same way, does the director knows anything without their managers? It’s just facade. Typically, it is being run by few folks who would like to keep their jobs irrespective of whatever the sh-- this company can get into. Their survival things is to stay on job as much as they can with their closed associates irrespective of they qualified or not. All the leaders running their closed doors with their closed members, and submitting their plans higher up. Hope HR knows all the things which were going around to have better decisions. Hope once the dust settles down on 12/10 we can stay focus on job.

Verizon/Verizon Wireless is slowly imploding. They kicked out a bunch of the more tenured, experienced folks and I am sure that a lot of them (including me) would have chosen to stay a few more years....

I'm working on an orderly hand over. That's the way I am. Hard to stay motivated. We just got a new engineer in our group. I let my manager know. No secret. I was retiring in 2020. Nice to get a free year. I have enjoyed my 28 years. Well mostly.

I'm mostly seeing the usual Thanksgiving and Christmas slack off. A lot less people have put in for vacation.

To the ones who are left. Good luck.

Been fun.

Ho Ho ho out the door I go!

The dust has to settle before you can see what’s ahead and what is left and the tools left behind.

a few months ago, my team was required to take the "Active Shooter Training" class. I'm not sure that's a window in expectations, or it's just a coincidence

Agreed. Already have the business approaching IT leadership to lobby to keep specific people so they can execute.

The "shutdown" has already started. I am seeing a great deal of lethargy in the group I work in and also in adjacent groups. I am seeing issues cropping up in supporting verticals that have never happened before and which no one seems particularly motivated to get to the bottom of it. Morale is as low as I have ever seen it anywhere I've worked before in troubled times.
