Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Transfer of Tax to Texas

A while back, there was a rumor that TR planned to move all NY tax editorial work to Texas. Instead, TR moved its NYC tax editors from to Hoboken. When is lease up in Hoboken?

Tweet, write, inform the press, politicians.

(The New Jersey Economic Development Authority gave TR $25.9 million in tax breaks to bring 450 employees to Hoboken from NY)

Or more importantly, can New Jersey CLAW BACK the tax incentives? If the incentives are annual, then it makes sense that the layoffs happen near year end 2018 or beginning of 2019. There is always an exit out the back door clause, which the company no doubt is familiar with ... Might explain why New Jersey folks are allowed to telecommute (i.e., retain jobs). By the time of the next cut, the folks will be isolated and won't even know it is coming, unless people continue to update this website ...

Tax incentives were given to the company by New Jersey for jobs at the Hoboken location. When is TR no longer required to maintain the jobs?

If memory serves, the Executive Editors are mostly located in Hoboken. Does that mean that there will be plenty of upward mobility for the folks who are already based in (or are hired in) Dallas/Carrollton or Ann Arbor? I believe that most of the Executive Editors are 50+, if not 60+ years old. So if they are close to retirement, it would seem that others in the right location have plenty of potential, at least title wise. It is well know that TR pays below market.

All future hires in Editorial must be in either Dallas/Carrollton or Ann Arbor. Thomson Reuters came to Hoboken 3 1/2 years ago with a 10 year lease at 121 River Street. The scuttlebutt is that in a few years they will close the Hoboken office (probably find some company to sublease to) and tell those who do not want to move to Texas to become full time telecommuters and when they leave or retire they will be replaced by people in Texas or Michigan. That means essentially if you still are a full time telecommuter not in the preferred location you will be an “outlier”.
