Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Nobody will have trouble finding a new job

Verizon employees are in high demand. VZ paid to educate us. Now other industries will reap the profits.

It might be petty, but this is one of the things that's making this whole thing so enjoyable for me. Verizon is yet to realize just how much it shot itself in the foot with this.

Duh...an engineer, with a PE, is qualified to do many things. Some of us have our master electrical cards.

Besides telecom I'm a certified mechanic. You know how many networked microprocessors are in a Brntley or BMW?

Telco DC power man? Solar energy.

Trolls be dammed.

Take it from this 17yr Sr Manager, it isn't as easy as you might think out there is recruiter hell, especially if you are approaching 50 and made a 6 figure salary.

It’s tightwads such as you @1atr who let price dictate everything, quality, an excellent outcome, and professionalism be damned.

Short-sighted people, such as yourself, refuse to value anyones unique talents and contributions, and continually fall for those who continue to preach the false gospel of “Jack of All Trades”.

Have you, @atr, ever turned one of your home construction projects over to one of those knuckleheads you’re promoting? If not, son, your eyes will one day be opened.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

“The problem I find with a new hire who worked for” telecom management “is that they only have a very narrow skill set. They do not have the ability to do the whole job from start to finish.” - @1atr

@1ate, though there’s the aroma of troll droppings about you, I’ll nonetheless offer my two cents.

If you needed heart surgery, would you go to a podiatrist? No, of course not. With any specialized field, comes specialists.

No different within the telecommunications arena. It’s a more prudent use of resources to divide up distinct specialties, specialties that require specific skill sets, tools, trucks, equipment, knowledge, etc.”

It’s the unrealistic individuals, usually those whose logic is dictated by cheapness above reality, who come to the belief there’s a only one-size-fits-all solution to everything.

However, reality does not bear this out.

BTW, would you have us believe you’re a recruiter perusing a layoff site? I tend to think your inhouse, and you’re attempting to stir the excrement.

Managers serve a distinct, necessary purpose, as do Installers, Repairmen/Repairwomen, Splicers, CO techs, Linemen/Linewomen...

@1atr, then you’re not a utility, a telecommunications firm, a construction company, or a government agency that overlaps the aforementioned industries.

OP, if I had a professional MLB team comprised of some very promising rookies and some seaoned players who were still contributing in the clutch, as well as playing the role of mentor to the younger players, showing them the ropes, IMHO I, personally, would not wish to lose the generational wisdom of an entire group, not only releasing them from their contracts, but also rewarding them handsomely to walk away and sign with other teams, our competitors. We made them top notch competitors, and then gifted those very individuals, serving them on a silver platter, to the very entities that could do us the most competitional harm.

Just my opinion.

C U later you Varitek’s, Jeter’s, Konerka’s and Sweeney’s.

Ws75RoQ - You are correct. On paper it will look great but in reality, at a time when the IT job market is so hot, whatever contract company comes in will have trouble finding competent people at the rates they will need to be restricted to in order to be profitable. That does not even look at the issue of knowledge drain. VZ will not be a fun place to work after Dec.
