Didn’t push the button. Looked outside and got a job offer - slightly higher pay, bigger responsibility with more work, but much better job security. Why is it I don’t want to leave Verizon? Am I a fool to stay?

There is something (maybe not very much these days) to be said for safety. When you have been with a company a long time, you know things like "You don't want to work for person X as he/she is ….." You can't always avoid it: in my case that person, (initials SG), became my manager for a year when my existing manager stepped down, but you can be prepared.
When you start a new job at a new company, there's a chance that your boss, or your coworker, is that company's SG or worse
It's a personal decision that only you, and your family if applicable, can make. If you have been with the company a long time like I was (25 yrs), it becomes not just about the salary or the perks (and there were many), but the bonds you have formed with coworkers over the years. I miss the people but I absolutely do not miss the "Verizon" I left. The company has morphed into a greedy, uncaring, unorganized s--t storm, and it was nothing like this in the beginning (Cellular One/Airtouch days).
