Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

It’s all about the bottom line

It's all about the bottom line no one cares about the working man, the back bone of our economy! The problem is simple they "large corporations" are only concerned with a profit margin. They don't think about how this will affect families and whole communities, or they do and just don't care. It's all about share holders turning large profits and fat cats getting big bonuses! So they're going to lay a bunch of people off, to strengthen a company that's not even struggling. So what do we do? Not buy their products anymore? Not sure if that's the answer either then we put even more jobs at risk, someone needs to put these guys in check! We bail them out so people don't loose their jobs and they do it anyway! These companies have too much power and no one has the balls to stand up too them! The U.A.W. is weak and so is our president and all of his false promises!!!

Mary is determined to get there first, win at all costs, and will disregard anything she has to, to get to that point. By that I mean her goal is autonomous, electrified vehicles, and taxi share vehicles. They are cannibalizing the company to get there, which means she will find success, or she will burn it to the ground trying. She will be remembered as the first female CEO in automotive, to win or lose big.

The unfortunate reality, is no one wants electric vehicles. It's a huge joke internally even within GM. Using some logic, no one today wants sedans today, and they are unprofitable. They want trucks and SUVS, which are profitable. If GM is slated to release 20+ electrified vehicles by 2020, who's going to buy a product no one wants? Sedans already are cheaper than SUVs and trucks. Electric vehicles won't be cheaper, but say they were, people still want trucks and SUVs. Place 20 of these EV's on the market in a limited pool of buyers, and they'll all cannibalize themselves competing for buyers. NO ONE wants them. Even todays Volt and Bolt numbers are an embarrassment.

If you think the layoffs of today are bad. What until you see what's coming on this mistaken bet. No one wants EV's. Autonomous is a joke. I can't wait for snow and ice, as they can't even get dry conditions right. The only viable option out of the package, is taxi services to all via Lyft and Maven. Let's just toss darts at the dart board, see what sticks.

Having vision works both ways. Knowing which path takes you towards evolution, and it's counter, knowing which path and what roadblocks are to be avoided. Part of me wants to see this slow moving train wreck in motion.

The cars aren’t selling what do you want them to do? Pay you to sit idle? They are going to have to invest tons of capital in moving to electric cars. But until that is complete, unless you have an R&D type education you are no use to them. It s---s but it is what is. Once its perfected and assuming they cant completely automate the process, then and only then at that point in time will there be openings for plant line work.

GM does not want a repeat of the last time they needed a bail out so they are being even more responsible about their finances. The ant stores for the winter when times are good during the summer. You can’t expect them to bleed money to feed a losing part of their portfolio and repeat the same mistakes all over again.

looks like the bailout money ended up in Warren Buffet, a few finance people and Mary B pockets. not in the pockets of 14000 people that have obligations that were made due to the thought that GM was a stable company to work for. shame shame shame.

Nicely put about about big corporations not caring for their employees and only interested in the bottom line. Funny that in '70s and early '80s large companies still treated people like family. If you came to work and did a great job, the company always rewarded you and took care of you. Completely different now like employees are discretionary expenses.
