Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Health insurance after being laid off?

Can anybody please tell me what's the situation with health insurance after being laid off? What are the options given?

I'm really scared of ending without medical coverage right now due to my current situation, and that's making this whole thing even more stressful to me.

I'd appreciate any info.

Don't base any decisions on what you read on a bulletin board. Refer to the official company documents. Someone here could be wrong or miss an important fact in your situation.

At least most of us a) can spell internet and b) know the difference between can and can't.

How about a) you all stop being lazy and b) realize that this ineptitude is why you and tr have no value.

Many of you seem to have your hands out and need tons of help.

If you can do 15 minutes of searching or asking people in person, you really are lame

To Post ID @WvzkYnl-vrr - How about a) you have a little compassion, jerk, and b) go troll somewhere else? It can take forever to search through these threads, and sometimes it's easier just to ask, especially when you're worried and stressed out.

To the OP - I just had my severance interview two days ago. As the other (non-troll) posters said, if you're in the US (although I don't know if there's a difference by state), your insurance will last until the last day of the month in which your severance ends. My health, dental, and vision will all be covered for that period. So if your severance ends on (as an example) March 15, you'll be covered under your health insurance until March 31.

All other benefits end as of your last day of work.

I wish you the best of luck in the future, and I hope better things wait for us all outside TR.

How about a) you search the interent and b) look at previous threads on same subject?

You need to check the company policy. The US is different from other countries. You can buy company insurance through COBRA for a fixed period of time but you'd bear the entire cost of the insurance premium.

The severance packages are really very generous, compared to most companies. I have one doctor that I visit every three months and she was in shock that would be covered for so long!

My manager was laid off and his severance package included his health insurance.
