with Verizon, the end result, is never by design. This whole this was a debacle. Disrupt the business for 3 months for what a couple of rifs could have accomplished.

They did this to retail over they last two years already. They cut 10 people from our store and we are just as busy and we still operate. Granted sometimes stuff doesn’t get done but we are still swimming. Some days it s---s though!

Not deadwood- Hans is a job hacker - he was brought in to do a job that could not be completed from someone already here. He was brought in to re-structure and take the heat. No emotional ties to any department or person.

Anything but deadwood. They are losing thousands of highly experienced high performing managers, analysts, programmers, architects, project managers, etc, people with deep domain knowledge of very complex in-house IT systems. Most of the deadwood is long gone in previous rounds of layoffs over the last few years. This is a cleverly crafted "voluntary" redundancy that is engineered to work around age discrimination laws. They did it by making the buy-out package only attractive to those with 15+ years of service, but offering it to everyone in those roles. They even let it slip in a call that their goal was to get a younger workforce. My guess is they did this because layoffs in the last 4-5 years looked a lot like thinly disguised age discrimination and may have come dangerously close to breaching the law. Many of those aged 45 and above who didn't volunteer will likely live to regret it, as they're going to find themselves turfed out in the next 18-24 months anyway, but without the 3-weeks-per-year-of-service package.

The OP doesn’t know the difference between a mining town and a dopey comment, can’t imagine how the company will compete with this level of talent, but hey knock yourself out and BUH BYE
