Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Any layoffs in Research?

I'm considering leaving IBM, but I'll stick it out if there is a chance I can leave with severance. Has there been any indication of more layoffs in Research?

Don't blame the OP because that's what IBM has become. A place to sit around until something better happens.

Not worth waiting, in my book.

From what I heard is they're not gonna offer severance, giving everyone being chopped to the first of the year and offering to let them stay on for 6 months while they find another job. If you take the 6 months you have to sign a nondisclosure and agree not to enter a class action against the company.

Let me research this and get back to you

In Canada, we get more than 30 days severance. That still was not enough incentive to wait for an RA 'package'. I left for a competitor 2 years ago. Best decision I ever made.

Winning deals against big blue beats being abused by their executives who consistently rise well beyond their level of incompetence.

Waiting for IBM to give you an RA? Not a good idea, you might end up being fired for no reason without any severance package knowing how IBM can be.

There are several hot job markets with great pay out there if you look hard enough.

Just be willing to move to another state like a real professional does.

Sorry?!?! So you're in IBM Research and considering waiting around to eventually be shat-out with a 30 pay-off? Little wonder IBM is producing nothing of worth these days.

The job market is hotter than red hat right now. No need to wait for something (severance) that may not happen. As IBM looks for ways to raise the rest of the 34 billion they overpaid , they will surely look to take it from the worker bees.

If they can get away with 30 days or no severance, they will. Best of luck getting out from under big blues grasp!

Yea, I agree there is no point to wait to get a 30-day severance, especially if your next opportunity is one of a lifetime.

FYI, the RA package I received earlier this year makes it clear that the terms of my RA (90 days notice and 30 days severance) may not apply to future RAs. IMHO they probably will, but IBM could just as soon decide to save all that money to help pay for Red Hat. Then you'd be SOL.

Seriously, don't hold out for a measly 30 days severance.

Let me make sure I understand what you said. You are going to stay and pass up another opportunity for the chance at 30 days serverence???
