Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Why people stay, I will never know

I was a softlines zone supervisor until April of this year when I've finally had enough of the BS, the stress and the worry. Moved on to something much better but out of morbid curiosity, I not only read these boards, I check the job postings of my former store every so often and it seems like my former position at my former store pops up every so often on the Sears job page.

I have a few people I still keep in contact with that still work at my former store and they have confirmed that yes, they really have went through 4 or 5 softline zone supervisors since my departure (and that's not all). Sears is in bad shape but, in my case, with such an abrasive store manager and district managers it just made the job that much worse. Why people stay I will never know. I think it's a comfort zone kind of thing.

Who exactly is going to work for a failing company for c-appy pay in a toxic work culture with no benefits, no room for advancement and no job security, especially now that the economy has been doing better? People are leaving Sears and are not being replaced. When they are, the replacements get cold feet really quickly and move on to something better. As a hiring manager, I saw it all the time.

I guess some people think they either have no where to go or Sears is all they know. I saw the writing on the wall two years ago and I left. Sears isn't the gold standard on how to run a successful business.

"The cattiness at sears is awful and everyone gossips about each other but acts like they are your best friend...toxic "

That can happen in any individual store of any brand. It's a matter of the tone local management sets, who they hire, etc.

I worked with a guy that bi/thch non stop about the job , we were both presented opportunities to leave for much better positions elsewhere .

I jumped and he stayed.

Some people just aren't change people , and some just love to have something to complain about . That was the only way I could figure it .
