I think the short story by Twain titled Cannibalism in the Cars is the best analogy for our corporate and political structure today.
It’s about politicians who, believing they are stranded in a snowstorm on a train, begin to nominate whom to eat so they may all survive. They follow Roberts rules of order the whole time. They praise those they’ve eaten and thank their families for their sacrifice.
In the end we learn they never left the station. They just assumed they knew all the facts and took drastic action.
