I had this exact question. The "no-compete clause" is a safeguard against passing company proprietary info. Mainly directed at corporate employees.

In other words, if I wanted to go to a direct competitor in a simlilar role, Lowe's can't stop me UNLESS I gave privileged info AND it can be proven.

For the fellow LP's laid off, go work wherever you can and want.

You can sues lowes for taking your right to pursuing a job in your field!

I had a company try this with me years ago. I got an attorney & they lost, plus had to pay me damages.

when the asm's were laid off the list was so long and expansive it was insane. there was names on the list you'd think really?? how are THEY really a direct competitor to lowes! but because they sold at least one group of similar things they were on the list. but if i remember correctly you could work for those companies so long as it was like 50 or 100 miles (directly, not road map) away from the store you worked. so essentially you would need to move to work for their "competition". so....you would need to move. yeah they will offer you a severance but it can come with a life changing choice attached to it. despicable that corporations pull this c-ap. it might be acceptable to do it to the well paid corporate suit who might actually know company secrets and has the resources to easily move...but the average joe working in any of these positions in a store will barely know squat. anyway...its a poison pill at the end of the day....de-incentivize you from taking the deal or uproot your family for another crummy job. its a joke how these corporate suits try to act like theyre in the latest espionage movie all day long. the average store slob just wants to work and go home...maybe make it to their kids ball game if the schedule hasnt screwed them out of it. we could care less about giving away their "secrets" to jc penneys, tractor supply or any other corporation that also could care less about us.

It’s people like Bruno who probably brought down Topix, and now will eventually cause this site to shut down.

I believe the restriction was limited to working at direct competitors (Home Depot, tractor supply, etc). There is no restriction on getting a LP job elsewhere.
