Last layoffs were a week before 4th quarter earnings release. I wonder if this round will happen a week before as well.

UP got a pass - the stock market is all over the place with the government shutdown, China trade situation, etc. So they can blame their falling stock price on Trump for the time being. Once there is some correction on the stock market itself, then they will continue with the mass lay-offs.

Feb. A sizable number left last year after collecting bonuses. It was noticed. Likely they will wait for that again this year, then reassess what further numbers they need cut.
