Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Does anyone know the end date for the layoffs

Seems like moral is a bit down in all offices. Wish we knew if we were still here by X date we didn't have to worry anymore.

The bloating began in 2015, so it's likely to continue all through 2019. They are giving lip service to the media to coral the idea and to keep it manageable. The layoffs of today are hardly in line with what they've been telling the media, and I can attest with first hand experience it's been the most unprofessional I've witnessed in two dozen years. That should say something.

Those on the inside know that it's happening quite differently.

It's my understanding that the last batch of people will be leaving on 3/25.

Keep in mind, there are other layoffs that are happening so more people may be leaving in Q2. We are a very large company and layoff initiatives never stop, so with this being said, we can claim that layoffs will never be done. At the same time, just look at the overall headcount numbers - as long as the total headcount goes up things should be good.

Now, you can argue that we are relying on contractors much more nowadays, they are not captured in the headcount calc.

Not sure, it's tough.

using all reasonable metrics, we can safely say that the USA is not in a recession

The official end date of this round of layoffs is end of Q1. That is what was communicated to the market.

well based off of this "Well all the layoff dates seem to be in January (Jan 8th, Jan 15th, Jan 22-25th) . Therefore, I would say if you're still here in February, you're golden."

They seem to being doing them once every 7 days.

I agree with -uch below. 2019 is the year of continued layoffs. Be careful, tread lightly.

Had heard mgmt will reevaluate the state of the business in June/July and determine if more layoffs needed.

I heard through January, but I'm not 100% sure. I also people say they are only supposed to be next Tuesday and Wednesday, but then others say everything will be on the 22nd. So I don't know if there is a for sure answer at this point.
