Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

What happened to the right of workers?

Supposedly the computer generates the schedules and no one can make changes. So does this mean when people call out, the store just does without help in departments? Lowe's is guaranteeing you have no life other than Lowe's and while at Lowe's you will be so tired that you can't even function. You shouldn't be using heavy equipment when working for 6 days in a row with one day off once much less repeatedly having such a horrible schedule. people will be calling out more often. people will be getting injured. They want to force the old people in Florida to quit from the schedule changes but the young people are more apt to quit when things do not go their way. It is not a coincidence they are rolling this out in a "right to work" state because that means companies can abuse employees all they want and won't get in trouble. What happened to the right of workers? If Lowe's wants to improve their reputation with investors and customers then they should start treating employees better. Don't you realize that the customers can see how poorly staffed Lowe's is and how tired the employees are already. They see employees with bandages from being injured at the store, etc. Customers notice and this makes them want to go to Home Depot. The more you abuse your workers, the more families of the workers want to shop elsewhere also. It is a downward spiral.

This is a truthful post by @X3zkRvI-3zvi that paints a good picture of the injustice towards the workers.

Lol. Oh yes so many better jobs for better companies out there. Yet strange you are all still here. Could it be that you are angry people with limited opportunity to leave Lowe’s so now all you want to do it complain vs work hard and improve your own position. Do you think people advance their careers by complaining about how companies take advantage of them or they don’t get two days off in a row. Ohh boo hoo ....... joke

You want to get the Boards attention?

Start filing reports with OSHA! There are so many violations in the stores, just take photos, get online & file the complaints. The fines are 7 to 10 thousand dollars per violation.

I think the union would irritate them. I’m sure that just like Walmart, they would close the affected stores citing plumbing issues or other bs.

But hey, at least they won’t move their jobs to Mexico!

This company does not allow employees to have rights. I'd love to see us have a union if for no other reason than to irritate the corporate rats. It's so easy to shut up one employee or make them disappear, they know that as a group we'd have a real voice and that's exactly why they are so afraid of it happening. Unionize now!!!!

I'm just curious why a company would knowingly hurt themselves. Employees for the most part will accept change but when it's constant and always involves hurting the workers you end up with a very jaded workforce. Lowe's has gone overboard though...... to the point many employees have made a hobby out of looking up groups online to spread the word about Lowe's and point out the many unethical things they will do put their employees and customers through. We advise friends and family to go elsewhere, we share the many horror stories of the failed installs, and do all we can to stop people from walking in that door. They're going to kick us all out the door at some point so why not get the truth out there as much as possible and stop folks from wasting their money there.

If youre smart, you'll fake a work injury, collect full checks for as long as you can, and f88k Lowes back.

Nothing wrong with lying, to liars who started it! Lowes is the most unethical POS box Ive ever seen. F((*k em back anyway you can. You'd actually be a hero because you are doing something against a tyrant.

The customers notice we are abused and overworked and they see us loading heavy stuff into customer cars without assistance so not only the employee but the customer could be hurt or worse. Lowes doesn't care. In the past, the workplace was supposed to be safe for employees and customers. Now OSHA, Dept of Labor, etc., is meaningless in right to work states. The employee is there to serve despite how dangerous it is. Then when people get hurt, they try to say that you must have done it at home, etc.

Glad you had balls to send that letter. Some of us aren't in the same financial situation but have had similar experiences. I was asked to come in for an interview before the store opened so I could get to my job at another Lowe's. The ASM said hello and basically said I can go home now. He obviously just had me come there to see how old I was. I spoke with the HR person who spoke with the ASM. Naturally the ASM denied it. I just let it go. That is just one example of the discrimination against anyone with age. I was actually the same age as the ASM but I have had a rough life and/or bad genes so I just look older. I am educated and had a good job managing many people but lost it when a foreign company purchased the company I worked for. I thought Lowe's would be a fun place to work but it is a sweat shop. I am mistreated just like you mentioned and all of my suggestions are ignored. Plus they punish you if you try to speak up or make suggestions unless you are one of their pets. Marvin is punishing the wrong people here. He should be trying to make the lower level employees happy. He should clear out many of the existing store managers and ASM's as they are the ones propagating the negative and unprofessional behavior plus they are the ones giving away the shop to their buddies or to every whining customer even if not justified. By the way, I was happy to hear that the guy who judged me for my age finally was fired but it took several years for that to happen and it was only because a woman complained. Still, what goes around, comes around eventually.

Many of the full timers at my store are already looking for work or requested two days off in a row. But our SM is mr. corporate and does everything to the letter sent down from on high.

As one of those older workers who wanted to continue to make a difference after retirement, I was appalled at the lack of managerial knowledge by either of my two store managers, multiple asms and even more department supervisors.

For some reason they thought that working their way up from being a cart wrangler to a store manager was a good thing. I've asked them what other business experience they have had and the answer was NONE.

I ran a few businesses in my lifetime and owned a few. I volunteered some advice an how to manage some difficult situations, but they were never interested.

I quit when I saw my job was changing from seriously helping customers to being a stock boy. I was talked to like I was a 16 year old kid by my ASM even though I could have bought and sold him a dozen times over.

Last week I composed a well written five page letter to Mr. Ellison on some of my observations and what I really happening out in the boondocks.

Good luck everyone, but there are plenty of jobs out there that will pay more than $15.00 an hour - so get out and go find. them.
