Thread regarding IBM layoffs

The Skills Matrix

My team was just asked last week to fill in a matrix of our skills and what were working on with timeframes. Now sometimes these requests can be data gathering for a big bid, but I know it’s not for a big bid this time as I know of several other teams who were asked to do the same. We know a layoff is coming and I’m getting my resume ready. GBS NA get ready to get hit hard.

Interested if this is a trend across the board...

Disclosure - Not my post, I lifted it off another thread as it generated interest and discussion, I believe the skills matrix needs a separate thread...

@7qfv same. last time I had to do this in 2017, half my team was moved into a different organisation and were subsequently made redundant in 2018. It’s a nasty way of getting rid of people.

Never would they get rid of the layers of APs and Partners who have 0 revenue commit though. I know several band 10s who just sit at home and build PowerPoint internal training for a tool nobody uses. That would be a logical place to cut the fat. Yet they’ll force 55+ staff into retirement instead. Sad.

-7qfv, that just means the layoffs didn't affect you or anyone you know.

The last skills matrix I filled out at IBM was because the group I was working with was moving to work on a different technology. They were just trying to figure out where education was required. Nothing foreboding.

Yes, I would agree, it is time to update your resume and start looking.

I remember signing a skills matrix for a while before I got laid off.

You're right on prepping that resume.
