BNY is a sad place to be

BNY is a sad place to be. As someone who was laid off on 1/14, I can tell you they were forcing managers to put employees into "below expectations" categories on annual reviews to cut the merit budget. They were taking perks away left and right. Such a shame what was once a great company is being ruined by Charlie's greed and mismanagement. I only regret not being able to say goodbye to my coworkers yesterday. To everyone still there, watch your back - you may be next!

If I had my money at mellon I would move it quickly. If you had a portfolio manager they may have been cut. Your money is being held up due to the lack of people still employed. Their voicemails haven't been changed even though they are gone. I watched people get carted off the floor like criminals all week hoping that they weren't coming for me next. These are good people. Now unemployed. What a toxic environment. I'm gonna try to look elsewhere for work. This place makes me embarrassed to call my place if employment although that could change quickly. Terrible management. They will be out of business soon.

Many great employees got below expectations for reasons that didn’t make sense and this happened to people who have always received great reviews. It was obvious why then and confirmed now.

Is it true if you are rated does not meet expectations you will not get a severance. I have never had a warning on nothing. My evaluation was great but I was told I still dont meet expectations. I have never had this happen to me. I was never warned or anything. My manager told me repeatedly she was forced to rate me this even though she didn't agree with it. I stayed at this company since I was 19 and I did because I love this company and I only have a few years till retirement. How can a hardworking, good dependable caring and devoted worker get this rating and cant do anything about it. Its devastating and I have felt very depressed since this happened. I was told my job is the least important in my unit of 10 so if they had to get rid of someone it would be me. I know my job will be eliminated. I'm sick over this.

Worked for almost 4 years. Top quality employee. Did a job shadowing program and maintained excellent performance. Promoted to a team lead position. Within 15 months they made me out to be one of the worst employees at the bank, forgetting that nearly the entire staff of my department either left or was fired and their work became mine. 100+ hours of overtime and more and more work being piled on.

I put a one week notice in a month ago and my new position gave me almost a 52% wage increase. BNY Mellon is a sh-- show.

He has sold everything One Wall and all other Buildings in Pittsburgh they can. Dense packed where people sit at tables in all areas, even managers and Directors. Took away all sense of family life no work from home. The place just really is awful. People that are left are subject to decreased bonuses and awful work conditions and hours. You average 60 to 80 hours per week and you will work weekends. So now he still will not meet budget so they will start selling business lines next. Sooner or later probably sooner this company will be split up and sold. He has no choice now all bad management.

Some people say its border line unethical to rate people low so that they don't get severance. In my opinion, it is completely unethical. The greed at the top is unreal. Maybe if they came up with great ideas to help the customers instead of these types of ideas no one would need be laid off.

Charlie has only been running things at BNY Mellon for a short time but in that time, he has excelled at showing how much of an a--hole he truly is. Charlie only cares about money, not the shareholders mind you and certainly not the employee's that work so hard day in and day out. He only cares about his own money, his pay, his bonus and all his other perks. Charlie has introduced new off the wall policies, including the elimination of based at home employee's while cutting way back on the number of employees that can work at home at all. On top of this he has forced all managers to rate 10% of their staff below expectations, regardless if they deserve it or not and then he uses those individuals as part of the next layoff. On top of all that he now has the management team running in circles trying to reduce levels within the organization so that we end up with a structure that makes no sense and does not allow us to effectively support our clients. He does not have the support of his direct reports, but unfortunately, they have lost control of things and Charlie is operating like a one-man wrecking crew, hell bent on destroying a 200+ year old company.

We as employees pray that the board recognizes their mistake and corrects it as soon as possible. We have no confidence in him as our leader and the board of directors needs to act to get this great company back on track. I urge all employees current and former to write each and every board member, urge them to correct what has turned out to be a very poor decision. Let's take out company back!

Let's get this trending! #noconfidenceinscharf
