Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

People will always face devastation and disappointment time and time again.

I own five non-GM vehicles. Some new, some not. GM will never earn my money. It's already engrained in my family never to touch a GM product. You want to work there, fine. Fair pay for fair work, nothing more, nothing less. Don't expect me to purchase your vehicle, and I won't expect you to keep me working past the end of my shift, as many are now finding out.

The single reason I won't ever support their products, is because of they way they treat their employees. I learned prior to the 2008 debacle. History always repeats with this company. People will always face devastation and disappointment time and time again.

When they went on their hiring binge in 2015, I told a number in my department, the day of reckoning is coming. We won't keep these numbers for very long. We will lose just as many as we brought on board or more. I didn't know the time or year that it would occur, only that it would.

They've gone well beyond what I even expected, and the manner in which it is happening. I'm pretty surprised at the greed in all of it. The last time former CEO Rick Wagner told us we wouldn't go bankrupt in his announcement, I was there watching, and I told my peers we would be bankrupt in six months. I was wrong, it was nine. He at least had a reason you could understand.

MB has no rhyme or reason for her insanity, and certainly lacks a plan for the future betting on EV sedans that no one wants. Time will prove this also true once again. Meanwhile while people are on the outside cheering her on for breaking glass ceilings, they fail to notice that she's actually intentionally sabotaging the building attempting to make it implode. Perception and all. Truth eludes.

They pay me and I work for them. And I do a great job for them.

That's the deal.

If they want me to be a customer as well, then they need to make a quality product that I actually want at a fair price.

They don't.

And being an employee doesn't mean I have to be a patsy and buy a poor product at an inflated price.

If they made good stuff at a fair price, the product would sell itself to employees and non employees alike and you wouldn't have to twist anyone's arm to buy it out of a misplaced sense of loyalty.

I have no respect for somebody who works at a company but does buy their products. Why are you working at GM then? Just a paycheck? It's people like you that need to be involuntarily separated first

Disagreeing with GM's quality of products is fine, but comparing them to BMW is laughable. BMWs are easily the most maintained and one of least reliable cars you can buy.

I wouldn't trust a GM car or any GM product to save my life. GM quality is not reliable. I see a lot of young people at GM, they aren't buying GM cars haha.. They're buying bmw's. lol

Come now. If you ask someone if they like they're job and they say "I love my job". Do you love it enough to do it for free?

Why do you even work here?

Of course. And that's simply part of the illusion. Everything looks fine and dandy unless your living in the footsteps of the abused child. I'm sure some people can speak with greater authority than others, having experienced decades of reconfirming truths.

There are some people you couldn't give them a GM vehicle, and expect them to drive it into work. It is what it is.

GM is a business and runs like such. Have you never worked for another large size corporation?

The comparison between parent and child is incorrect and sets up the wrong expectation.

With working at GM, you have to understand the kind of relationship that exists. It's one of a abusive relationship between a parent and a child. One day that parent loves you, and the next their beating you senseless. Just as you think things are going good again, the beatings return for reasons you just can't understand. Forgive anyone that doesn't trust that kind of relationship in the slightest.

While you always want to hope for the best, you know that the situation will never change for the better - you can almost count on it like clockwork. If you understand this concept, you have no illusions about the capability of this company when it comes to people resources.

Some of us saw these layoffs coming well before they occurred. Sure we were surprised by the magnitude and manner in which they occurred, but like clockwork, they always come. There are always tells.
