Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Tuesday, January 22nd for Omaha employees

Plan on 1/22 for the layoffs. Announcement made in HR... excuse me Workforce Reduction... plans are in place to execute at a better level that previous cuts. 15% target and then remaining 5% will be handled through H1 2019 to get to 20% overall. Higher bands will be targeted and consolidated this round, but all levels will be impacted. City officials have also been notified.

Good luck everyone.

Hatchetman was already here before the new COO. Unless he has worst plans than what has already been dexided; he’s not any worse than what we already have.

Check the WARN limits for them laying off certain age groups... they will fire one person younger only to keep at the 'legal' limit just to keep the 40's - 50's and 60 year old's from having valid warrant to file a class action lawsuit against them for discrimination. This is what they did in 2015 - and in 2017 and 2018 .... and you can bet your a-- they are doing it again. Brush up your resume and get out of there... leave them hanging. There are much better companies out there to be part of.

Folks, take note. Look around you. If you see bad employees, protected employees, ineffective vps and directors, and they survive this.... best you eject on your own terms, because this isnt looking pretty for the long run no matter how tight those gold handcuffs are. It just proves up aint serious, and this is more of the same ol'.

Thats just a shot of reality. Make your own decision with your family.

WARN only guarantees at least 60 days pay that can be done in lieu of 60 days notice. UP severance is more than 60 days pay. Warm is irrelevant.

I believe UP can just pay the penalty for violating this act but here it is.

"Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN)

General Provisions

WARN offers protection to workers, their families, and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of covered plant closings and covered mass layoffs. This notice must be provided to either affected workers or their representatives (e.g., a labor union); to the Nebraska Department of Labor Office of Employment and Training; and to the appropriate unit of local government.

A covered employer must give notice if there is to be a mass layoff which does not result from a plant closing, but which will result in an employment loss at the employment site during any 30-day period for 500 or more employees."
