Unemployment Benefits

Has anyone been able to determine when you can start collecting unemployment benefits?

Its entirely dependent on the laws of your state. Some states allow for unemployment almost inmediately. Others take into account the severance.

Sign up now. In most states you are eligible after 2/28.

You cannot claim unenployment if you are receiving severance pay. If you do and it is found out, you will have to pay it back.

When laid off from another Big 3 member in 2009, the state approved my unemployment for over 8 months. I then received a letter from the company that laid me off saying they were challenging it. I was forced to pay it all back. The paperwork I received at the time of separation said something to the effect "you may be eligible for unemployment compensation benefits". I am now reluctant to try for unemployment now.

Austin. 3/4. You cannot claim unemployment benefits when you are getting paid AND the official date of separation is 2/28. Even if they pay now for February, they will recover it later and it will go into your permanent record.. lol

So the time period associated with your unemployment pay would begin on 3/1/19, correct?
