Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Profit Sharing

This company needs to pay a steady dividend to investors every quarter and give back to ALL employees at the end of the year in the form of profit sharing bonus of 5% of annual salary.

Want employees that work safe and are proud of the company they work for while also pleasing investors AND SAVE MORE MONEY?

From the person that makes $40k to someone making $250k give them 5% across the board profit sharing bonus and maintain a steady dividend for share holders. If the company isn’t profitable don’t pay the profit sharing bonus.

Offer safety incentives to each employee for working safe.

Get the people you ship for to give coupons for free gifts to offer to employees as rewards. What ever happened to getting a thanksgiving turkey coupon???

Give back to the employees and the company benefits greatly.

UP used to offer generous buyouts when downsizing. Do they still do this? Do they offer severance pay based on years of service? (Asking for a friend.)

Manager here. If this is true and you have managers actively covering up safety incidents or bribing you to not report incidents, you need to make a values line call immediately. Anyone refusing to properly report real incidents should not be working at UP.

Safety is expensive. A few thousand in prevention or a few million when something happens. Choose one.

Maybe bring back safety days at least.

Sounds like someone just swallowed a big load of "incentive"

Accidents and injuries go unreported now. Especially in the maintenance of way department. Those long records are only because employees are scared to report anything for fear from their manager retaliating because the managers bonus might be lowered. Ask around it’s true. Managers will give days off with pay under the table so the employees won’t report the injury and the manager never files an accident report. So, maybe they should take away the bonuses from the managers.

Have your union negotiate it...

Safety bonuses are bad because it incentivizes people to not report injuries or incidents so we look good on paper. If that happens we can’t investigate and try to fix safety issues at the root cause.

UP has paid a stock dividend to their shareholders every year since the railroad was created. It has raised it's dividend every year for the last 12 years. Just as an FYI

Other shortline rails have offered safety bonuses and the FRA frowns on that.

Agreed... this company would skyrocket if they just showed the employees a little gratitude and gave some incentive. This company is consumed by greed and they only see the employee pool as waste of money. Employees are not seen as an asset and never will be until all current executives are removed from power.
