Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Union Pacific has everyone scared. Even the unions we pay our hard earned money for dues can't even protect us. Unions no longer have strength.

The union is weak, they are letting management take jobs when people are furloughed. I thought unions were there to fight for the members. I guess I was wrong.

There are non union jobs in railroading. Go join one, they offer about $22 per hour for craft work.

The unions at the railroad are garbage! They have been trying to slow the workforce down for too long! Well guess what?? That’s not going very well now, is it??!!

Once all of the agreement layoffs are complete, they will really be left with c-ap, as most of the old heads will be left. You know, the ones that hired in because they knew someone, and know nothing about their crafts after 20 years.

All of you commenting about the union not being useful. You probably help by being a Republican voting, absentee case. Get bent without the union you would be fcked

Unions aren’t worth a c-ap. Look at dispatchers. They are not union and they aren’t getting cut and also get bonuses every year. They only work 9 hours a day. The least amount of hours out of most who work here.

Maybe the unions used to be better than non agreement but no matter who it's all corruption, favorites, and the national and general chairs making $$$ off of our dyes and donations no diferent than fritz and co. They lay down for everything come contract time and tell us it was the best they can do. The previous post make a great point about all the perks non agreement received that they unions have said for years were never possible. Any more if I had the option I'd put in my withdraw and work as a non agreement craft. But what the f--- does it matter any way I'll be gone in a month or two and it's all you senior guys that let this sh-- happen and don't produce that led to this will be left. Enjoy the beds you made.

Unions are the reason that there are safety redulations, overtime, worker’s compensation, hours of service, health insurance, and a host of other benefits. They have to make nonagreement jobs a tiny bit better, or no one would take them. You have a lot more protection as an agreement employee than as nonagreement.

Non agreement persons get 3 weeks vacation first year. Takes a union member 8 years to get that...now take into consideration MCS completely f---s the sh-- out of us when trying to use it. Better enjoy having January and February oh and maybe if your lucky you might get a weekend on march but probably not. Then they wonder why so many people abuse FMLA

I enjoy my union wages. Union is only as strong as its weakest member. And we have a lot of self serving members that only care about themselves.

I would be happy if our union was to at least speak to us. I’ve heard absolutely nothing from them. Other than protect your jobs. What the heck does that even mean? Isn’t that what we pay them for?

If we were non agreement employees, do you think we'd have the wages and benefits we have now? While I agree, it is irritating that union can do nothing to stop this, it would be much worse without the union at the bargaining table.
