Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Pending patents

Does anyone know what happens to pending patents? I was told you will be awarded some large sum once they've been published (~5k$) or so.. so I'm assuming GM will not be paying this..

There was a guy and gal team that achieved over 50 patents each. He was salaried, she was contract. At that time there was a discrepancy in pay, where as salaried was $1000 per patent, contract was $500, and an old and outdated policy. Because of those two, GM changed their policy to $1000 per candidate.

Regrettably, in the latest buyout, he took the buyout, and she retired before any of the buyouts. If I recall correctly, he was up for a Boss Kettering award - unknown if that occurred. I had never heard or known an person to have achieved so many patents within GM. It was a pleasure to have worked with them, and their methodologies.

You are paid for the concept and submission. Weather the idea actually achieves patent status is irrelevant, payment is still made. With that said, you will be notified and paid out quickly. Actually awaiting the patent approval or disapproval, takes much longer, and is irrelevant in receiving payment on behalf of GM.

Correct me IIW, but if you received a patent working at GM, you give up any monetary reward? Let the down arrows fly.

$1000 per patent, while employed.

If you were laid off, your relationship with GM is over.
