California law requires a 60 warning period before layoffs. That’s what Forst American did the bear min of what the law requires. If people thing that is a GREAT package they sadly don’t know the law.

First American benefits are horrible. Think about this... First Am prides itself on being a female ran company (over 70%) but offers no time off for the mother to bond with a new baby, no sick time off or even a garuntee 401k match. Anyone who’s ever worked for a decent company knows First Am has horrible benefits.

First AM is a blockbuster corporation that is prime for a Netflix to come in and wipe it out.

  1. The 'media' isn't interested in FA's layoffs. Small potatoes compared to GM and others that have recently laid off over 10k. Also, www.thelayoff.com is 'media', isn't it? Open to the public for all to see. Not considered mass-consumption 'news media' though.

  2. Considered top 100 companies to work for BY THEMSELVES. Yes, all that fanfare is a bit of a joke, however... some people who are still there or who have left voluntarily still consider FA to be a great place to work, but others (also still there or who have left voluntarily) do not. The judgment of good or not good is entirely subjective... YMMV in the real world.

  3. There are better ways to terminate your employees. An abrupt termination with no warning is the worst, but the severance compensation is a step up from what they used to do, so at least it softened the blow a little bit.

Funny how layoffs never hit the media! over 1100 employees laid off and had to sign agreement that they wouldn't talk to media, but still considered top 100 companies to work for. what a joke!
