I guess I see things differently than a lot of people on here. I'm a female employee and have been there 20 years. UP is an amazing place to work if you are a woman. Work life balance is excellent. Yes we've had layoffs. Most companies are laying off right now. Go to another company though. See if your pay is even close to being the same. We can work from home and wear jeans. There is a free gym on site. Yes, any of us could be laid off today. That's true anywhere. I truly love what I do and the people I work with. You have to want to work if you are at UP. I feel like those who were let go although it's sad, were not really hard workers. At least in our department. My only complaint is that our health insurance is not very good for a company as big as it is. We will see what the future holds. If I loose my job I will be sad but while I'm there I still love UP. I'm proud of what I do. If your not why are you still there?

Do they have child care there on site too ?
You’re hot and everyone in the building men and women want to f--- you! I gather you’re confidence is greater than most, but wow how nieve. I think I even know who you are. The major issue with these layoffs is that Nepotism continues to not be touched!!!
It must be rough taking it up the a-- from Lance to keep your job. We call dim wits like you wh--es in the real world.
🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂vvvv OMFG IM CRYING BAHAHAHA
Thanks for the bump tight jeans

Lance
Sad
As a female myself let me help you understand what going on here. You started out name calling, belittling and accusing. Now you want to play the victim, others doing that back to you? No one has condemned you for enjoying your work, your job or your company. The truth is, however, that you are very clueless about what you try to speak about.
Today, under 20 percent of UP executives are female in our company. In perspective women fill 50% of middle management positions globally. According to its 2014 annual survey, released March 7, Grant Thornton International Business Report says the proportion of women in senior roles is stuck at 24%, the same as 2013, 2009 and 2007 (the numbers fell in 2011 and 2012, when women were hard hit by the global economic crisis).
Union Pacific is NOT a good workplace for women, no railroad really is, yet. Much better than it used to be, no doubt but, below average even for "desk job" for women. Even by global standards. Salaries are often as much as 15-20% below nation average, benefits have recently moved down over the years for both genders. You are happy with that because you clearly know no better. That is fine for you but, don't speak of it for others. You know benefits you hired in for are not available to newer hires.
You suggested workers laid off did not want to work and were not good workers when you know nothing about them. You don't even seem to know what real physical or hard work is. It is getting the transport done, keeping the equipment moving, not helping those that do that work from home sitting at a cubicle. Not to discount what you do do but, come on, this a railroad, first and last. You don't know what the hard work or job well done even is for a railroad where you are not interacting at all with train. "You know nothing Jon Snow" don't pretend you do. Enjoy what position you have found yourself in. It is great that you are satisfied, good for you, but don't speak about others.
No matter how much you want to pretend it is, your time in a dorm room is of the same value as a real worker that served two terms over seas fighting for his country. He does what he does so you, a perfect stranger he likely never meets may have the very freedoms to do what you did. Why speak ill when you don't even know people with such ethic and what created that you now welcome to just enjoy blindlessly. What you provide as consumer (Worklife balance, work from home, wear jean, free gym) is just not the same dear, it is not.
You are not the victim, you forced that judgment on others you didn't have a clue about. All you have been offered back, here in forum , is your own, begged for, comeuppance.
To the professional knee pad queen that loves her job “as I’m holding in throwing up” your just as sick as Union Pacific you don’t know what work is !! so better hope those pads still work or you might be next and have to get a job.
Well we can’t all be Lance Fritz’s secretary, but congratulations.
I loved working for UP and was really proud of working for UP. I’ve worked for numerous companies and UP was exceptional. And then Lance started laying people off, so I made sure I worked hard and didn’t take off early or spend too much time at lunch. Then I got walked out, after routinely getting praise and being evaluated as a good performer, so now I have to admit that I’m a bit jaded....
I was laid off Tuesday 10 days before reaching 20 years.
Was just wondering how we work from home??? I have been on road 8 1/2 years since I hired out .. just caught a Matainence job at home and getting bumped again so??? Work from home?? Does up know this?
O BROTHER! SHE SOUNDS LIKE A GLASS HOUSE TROLLER!
You need to check your priviledge.
Lmao probably the execs are the only ones who can probably work from hone if they even do that much
HEY WHO WANTS TO BET THIS WAS BETH WHITED POSTING FROM THAT NEW MULTIMILLION DOLLAR MANSION REMINDING US TO BE HAPPY AND ACCEPT WHATS HAPPENING!
Yeah "those let go weren't the hard workers" says 2 things about this poster.... 1. Clearly is on the progressive pr image managment fast track which is easy street. And 2. Has no concept of seniority and the newer younger hires That were doing the work are the ones laid off. Given theres senior guys working hard too, but we all know the longer a lot more have been here the more they're just collecting biding time to retirement. So try again lady....
You poor, stupid soul. You need to get out more. There aren't many companies where you can't wear jeans these days.
Is this a Nancy Pelosi posting?
Someone in the Huston/Spring Law Department should do an intervention with this poor employee... female, single mother, 20 year employee who wears jeans and works from home and who doesn’t know the difference between lose and loose... it’s not going to take a rocket scientist to figure out who you are.
Ahhh yes... A breath of fresh air! I'm so glad I'm not alone in this great big, crazy railroad world! I too am, a 20+ year vet. What, department are you in ma'am?
Good to know I wasn’t let go because I was 2 months shy of qualifying for Railroad Retirement!
Why woukd you say “for a woman?” News flash - women folk are working in all kinds of places nowadays. And guess what? They’re wearing pants now, too!
For all wondering this female employee is in the Houston/Spring law department. Dedicated over 20 years to being oblivious to BS.
Many at UP who sit at desks work very hard to help those in the field and help run trains. I've never had to sleep with anyone at my job. If you are under the assumption that women can only be successful in their careers by doing so, you probably should not have a job at UP or anywhere else for that matter. That is very sad.
"We can work from home and wear jeans." I seriously hope you do NOT call yourself a damn railroader! Hahaha she said wear blue Jean's at and work 🤣🤣
Holy sh--! Is that "go grab a coffee" chick??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Never at another company have I witnessed as many extramarital affairs as I have at UP, and most of them were superior-subordinate. Funny how UP managed to find all of the snakes in Omaha and promote them so they could prowl the halls looking for their next pretty young thing to paw, bring Starbucks for, promote, and I shudder to think what else.
I’m sure you job is in jeopardy. Sorry but it sounds like you should have been let go before some of the other folks that do actual work at the RR.
You've probably never seen a locomotive except on the company calendar. People like you are part of the problem.
You don't think people are in bed with their bosses? Keep those blinders on I guess.
I’ll bet you would sing a different tune if you had cancer and were fired.
Yes very special if you are woman, in particular if you have cancer.

Sorry to the hard working people who were let go. To those who name call, belittle, accuse me of sleeping with someone as the only reason I have a job just WOW, I cannot believe why UP would terminate your employment. You are right they had no reason for letting you go. Eyeroll. I am one of many at UP who love their jobs. If I am walked out I will still love my job. We have amazing benefits and work with amazing people. Sorry people but it's up to you to be happy and regardless of your situation you are the only ones who control that. Not Lance OR any of the executives. The people in the field, at desks, in trucks, in trains you work for UP. Own that and be proud. I am not the only one who feels this way. Sorry there are so many who don't. It won't change how I feel. I am proud to be part of it even if I am not able to retire there.

Good for you and your VAG EYE NUH
Good work/life balance.... obviously not operating or any kind of field craft. There are many of us in the so called "Glass Palace" that work in jobs that have to cover 24×7×365. Not all of us are marketing slugs that expect someone else to deliver on unrealistic promises. Some of us are in Operating.... no work/life balance whatsoever. The original post-er must be in a cush department, delusional, one of those for whom everyone else has to cover, or.... like a previous reply stated, is "Dating" the boss.
Just curious were knee pads issues with your job? UP does have a ton of great things such as the gym and work from home - for those great employees that aren’t too overloaded to enjoy them. In my department I see people come in late, go work out for two hours and then take an hour lunch and still manage to find time to have time to roam around chit chatting with others. Not sure where you are but I watched some great employees get walked out Tuesday and it literally sick to my stomach. So take your misguided BS back to your sand pile and stfu because many people have lost their jobs that did nothing wrong they just happen to be over 50 and over 10 YOS - you are a prime example of the stupidity that is overtaken the executives right now
WE GOT US A KOOLAID DRINKER HERE BOYS AN GIRLS. DONE S---ED THE BOTTOM DRY OF THAT CUP. GOOD GAWD. PLEAZZZ. IF YOU'RE GONNA SPEW SH&T AT LEAST MAKE IT BELIEVABLE.
Can we stop with pitting ourselves against each other? I hate this "I work on a locomotive and you sit behind a computer doing nothing" mentality. Yes, we make money from those of you who are boots on the ground. Thank you for doing the job you are paid to do. I appreciate it. However, how do you get paid? Someone sits on a computer and processes it or creates systems and programs to process it. You want FMLA or medical leave? Someone processes the paperwork. You need to move a train? A dispatcher takes calls and uses a computer to give instruction. You guys seem to have so much animosity towards the people in Omaha whose job it is to support you, operating, but get upset when you can't call and speak with us. I really just don't understand what you guys and gals in the field want.
