Omaha peeps, ketv looks good tonight. Discussing one of us who was laid off from UP this week. But she’s fighting cancer and will lose her insurance at the end of the month.

There are many more stories out there of families struggling with cancer in the their lives, and the significant provider for those families lost their health insurance. Not diminishing this poor lady in the least, but wanted to bring awareness to this. The UP will tell you that you can continue your health insurance for up to 18 months. That is COBRA health insurance that costs $1500.00 per month. Naturally this will eat away at the c-appy severance pay they are offering. The UP executives should see these people first hand and have to explain the choice of why greed is the big option for getting rid of these good people.

I was walked out after over 20 years of service so I understand at least a small part of the pain that is so evident in this news article. But this is just absolutely heartless. The compassion level of UP executives is absolutely zero at this point. Back in my day, there were tough times, and we did have to release some employees, I was even reluctantly a part of it. But there is absolutely no way that I would have given an employee a bonus and raise one day and fired her the next, especially when she is fighting cancer and a single mother. Instead, I would have offered a chunk of my pay and would have rallied my coworkers to do the same in order to protect her job. The executives and management at UP that are orchestrating these type of heartbreaking stories should be ashamed.
