Having gone through a very recent layoff myself, here are my tips. Good luck.

  1. Check into unemployment. I think there are some states that allow you to collect unemployment and severance at the same time. Other states will make you exhaust your severance before they allow you to collect unemployment. Just make sure you apply as soon as you are eligible to avoid any delays in getting paid.

  2. Make sure you and your child have health insurance!!!!!

  3. Commit to sending out at least 25 resumes each day. Even if you don't think you'd be a fit, apply anyway. And network with everyone and anyone!

  4. Try to plan fun activities that don't cost any money. Make your own sandwiches and go on a picnic. Grab a few books at your local library. Have friends over for TV night. Go for a walk at the park. I think Home Depot even has a free do-it-yourself workshop for kids on weekends (and they supply all the materials). Volunteer for a good cause.

  5. Consider enhancing your knowledge while you're out of work. You'll have some down time and there's nothing better than learning - even if you already have a degree, there are still a lot of online training courses and adult education classes that can help keep your skills current.

  6. Stay positive! Know that you're not alone. Many of us got laid off and, like the previous post said, it usually turns out to be a blessing in disguise.

Anyone and everyone ever had been laid off from the Bank ends up in better spot. Don't get discouraged. It is a blessing in disguise.

Cut expenses. Send out several resumes, and don't get discouraged, it could take awhile to get a new job. Maybe consider taking a temp job until something better comes along.
