Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Just received the new severance package from Lowe's

This company smh. I just received the new severance package from lowes and this company just loves to spit on people faces when they're down. They apologized and deducted $1,070 from the package stating that it was a mistake and to top it off they will not pay for postage. I can now say it out loud I HATE THIS CULT THAT GOES BY THE NAME OF LOWES. anyone who still works for this company please run away from this company.

Im literally being forced out on ‘performance’ grounds, basically - work has been withheld from me for almost a year. They’re trying to fire me on performance rather than just offering me a severance package.

My first severance came in nasty and covered in an unknown substance.... The second was cut in half....the first one received was also dated AFTER the second received..... Hmmm...... As far as I am concerned the one with the latest date is more valid. I will continue watching for the class action lawsuit....

and what else would you expect from a 2nd rate company? I feel so bad for those effected. We are seeing what this company really is... incompetent and void of integrity. If there is not enough $$ involved for a law firm to bother fighting this then what should be done to right this wrong? Maybe this has to be brought to the court of public opinion. Use avenues available to make the public aware of this trash. Just maybe a ton of bad press would hurt the stock price and they would feel some pressure to make this right.

So, maybe it’s not about the money. Maybe it’s about ethics. Maybe it’s David versus Goliath.

Pro Bono is a thing. Talk about a PR win for any law firm taking this case. I’d give them half the difference in severance if we could just get the word out about this whole deal.

I’m frankly tired of people trying to quell talk of lawsuits on this forum. It’s at least insensitive and at worst appears to be the work of lawyers working for Lowes.

Let's say it's an average of $2,000 per employee that was miscalculated, and guesstimate that 1/2 of stores lost their LP. So what, 2,000 people? That's a whopping $4 Million. Even if there were legal grounds to sue, which there aren't, no law firm is going to take on a national class action suit over chump change like that, especially when you can't win.

We won't even get into PSIs. Sure there were more of them, but they were also mostly external hires with no more than 3 years on the job. They wouldn't have qualified for anything but the minimum in most cases anyway.

So from all the comments here, some of us were paid 1 week for the full 18yrs, and some were paid 2 weeks for their actual years worked. I’m trying to figure out how they calculated the figure amount taken back. It would be nice if they broke it down. I’m still waiting on my first package, so I’m trying gauge how disappointed I’ll be. 😕😕

You'd figure a company that made letting go of people a habit by now wouldn't screw up this badly.

This is what everyone needs to do:

Go to all the major sites that allow reviews: Yelp, google and give lowest score possible. Write a short narrative about poor service and duplicate it across all your local stores. Also, start calling in receipts same deal, have your friends do it as well. We need to have a nationwide goal of getting every single store down below 2 stars with a ton of poor service narratives. Many customers depend on this when making large purchases. Keep your heads held high, they will get theirs in the end.

Cutting someone’s Severance in half is preposterous. I’m getting my first package tomorrow, I’m sure they were real careful now that it’s become a sh-- show. Obviously someone monitors our posts, a lot were taken down. Nice to know we can’t even share our grievances witnout the big man looming over us.

Still waiting on my first package. Hr Corporate told me it was in the mail. Still nothing. I think their scrambling to fix their f--- up, and aren’t worried about the ones that never received it.

“If they have you down as "employed", go back to work and put in your hours, then demand your pay. See how long it takes for them to take action and get your situation straightened out.”

Lol. This is priceless.

Love to see their faces when 1/2 the employees come back.

"I am one that never received anything because I was still deemed employed by the company. I won’t have any legal loophole to fight with. If any of you have any kind of legal stance on this, I say go for it."

Your legal loophole is that they canned you, and then lie and say they didn't. That's jives with everyone else Lowe's is screwing over because they can't get their act straight on this mass layoff that they won't call a "layoff".

If they have you down as "employed", go back to work and put in your hours, then demand your pay. See how long it takes for them to take action and get your situation straightened out.

Agree with statement below.. over 50 and just got a Part time Job. It’s not easy. I was betting on them doing me right. But alas... 15 Yrs with the company.. and I get nothing but sh-- on. I don’t have a choice but to take the c-ap they offer.

"They took $4,021 from me and a letter saying “the severance calculation may be incorrect in your release and separation agreement. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

And that right there is the legal loophole we need. They use the words "MAY BE", rather than the word "IS". They are insinuating that they DON'T REALLY KNOW.

Don't sign and send back the second package. Stick with the first one. Let this play out.

Unless you have written proof that Lowes signed the first one you sent back, there is nothing that can be done. It’s not binding until both parties agree. Unfortunately we just get screwed again, a lawyer probably wouldn’t even give you the time of day against a Company like Lowes.. they will always have some legal loophole to get them out of c-ap. (Lawyers making a million a year for them will make sure of that) Big Corporation stepping on the little people that made them rich.... again.

Unless you are flat broke and need the money, I would ignore the second "package" and go by the first. We agreed to what they offered. If they break that agreement, they are the ones who are liable.

I took a two week vacation and started my new job today. I'm not signing and sending back their insulting BS. I'd rather fight than switch. I'm sticking to their original amount, or they can shove it and I'll drag it out for the rest of my life.

Marvin Ellison a Christian? I'd be more likely to believe he's in league with the Father of Lies.

They're just going to push some new story that misrepresents a bunch of seasonal positions as thousands of new jobs again. It'd take a miracle to get the media to really give a sh-- about this.

Just got another "partial package" today, claiming an "error". They knocked nearly $3000 off mine. I've sent the first one, and they will pay it, or it's lawsuit time.

Is this enough for a class action suit? Might be worth checking in to.

Like said below... it’s not binding until both parties agree.. making a copy of the paperwork you signed won’t help, because you would have to have both parties on there for it to be legal. What a sh--ty thing to do. I will never step foot in another Lowes again, and I’ll be damn sure to make my voice heard on every platform available.

It’s not a binding agreement until both parties have signed. That’s why they mail it to us first then they sign. We’re supposed to trust they’ll be ethical and not make any changes. They know there’s nothing we can do. We can’t sue, they’d drag it out for years and cost us way too much money and we’d never get a dime. All we can do is take it when they sh-- on us and post our complaints on a message board and vent to our former peers. They know we’ll sign, take our one week and move on. They don’t care about us. We already knew that.

This is disgusting. So what are they doing with the packages that were already signed and mailed back. I made copy’s of all mine. They just throw them in the trash? I thought once you signed it, it was a binding agreement. How is this even legal.

Isn't the first one a binding agreement, or is it not binding until they sign too?

I honestly dont get how they can be so dysfunctional. In 2017 ASMs were notified ahead of time by UPS that they were getting a package. Some got them early. Now they fire the LPs and PSIs, promise them one amount and then go "oopsie, we didnt mean to be that generous.".

I stand to lose over $4k if this is true. Waiting on my second severance to show up today. I was happy with what they were giving me but I wasn’t counting on anything until it was in my account. Now not only do I miss out on a bunch of money, I have to spend my time and money I don’t have sending it back again. This company can’t get anything right.

Did they go with the 1 week per year like originally told or did they round down time served? I knew we were going to get screwed. This also resets the 7 day wait period we have to refuse the payment after signing. That means it will into March before we see any money. Over a month without getting paid. Thanks Marvin.....
