Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Devon

They are serious about shareholder value. Cutting overhead significantly, selling non-strategic assets, buying stock and increasing dividends. They are flattening their organization and getting rid of functions that do not directly contribute to the bottom line. Bold moves are necessary and they are making it happen.

A year ago, CHK purged many of it’s true leaders. People who would stand up for something, not be afraid to have dialogue or discourse in their realms of expertise. Many of those same leaders were valuable and paid as such. Experienced engineers were a big target, too. Of course 99% of those let go landed in much better situations. But the real shame is what was left over at CHK: the FIRST round of wells designed and stimulated are fracing into each other. The cost of remedial work on these wells will be far greater than the salary saved on the people they let go who were doing the jobs right.

The lack of experience and leadership here in OKC and out in the field offices is evident. There is NOBODY who is willing to make decisions in the best interests for safety and sustainable pricing and contracting.

I left campus last week, I am not looking back, selling my sh-- shares for the tiny-yet inflates- amount that it is worth, and placing my surest bet I can imagine: shorting CHK with my brokerage house.

@2vjj Unfortunately nobody wants to buy CHK unless there's a fire sale. When you are infected with the plague buyers stay away. Bottom line.

DVN never had the debt that CHK had to overcome. DVN mngt is now setting itself up to be bought. CHK mngt should do the exact same thing.

When DVN tells its investors there plan they almost always perform. There may be some disgruntled employees but decisions are being made to improve the performance of the company. They do what they say - no excuses. Not once in the last 6 years has CHK met the financial and performance goals that really matter and improve the real value of the company. Anyone want to challenge this?

Why does chk not get ahead ? Because chk is still filled with a large group of evil hate filled lazy back biting deceitful employees that constantly are stabbing their management and their coworkers in the back! These people continue to erode progress with their horrible attitudes and passive aggressive ways. If you hate chk as much as all these posters who are current employees say they do ...... get your a-- on out of there and go get happy somewhere else ! Chk doesn’t need you or your attitude.

CHK..... land of the useless VP. What is the VP to employee ratio? Why do we need a VP of HR? VP of EHS? Land? We can’t justify it. And don’t get me started on those that have accomplished nothing, especially at the SVP level. The problem is no one on Wall Street cares. CHK is a blip so this management team will continue to get away with poor decisions,

But...but....but we are going to be cash flow positive in 2017. I mean 2018. It is definitely going to be 2019. Oh hell maybe it will be 2020.

Yes - for instance they have let go numerous VP's in the past few months and replaced them with line managers. They have also eliminated senior VP positions. They are serious about overhead and right sizing.
